On the SWAPA forum tons of folks are talking about having another vote on age 60. Seems that a large percentage of the membership feels SWAPA is spending money on age 60 repeal when the membership doesn't want it to go away.

If you fly for SWA, go to the SWAPA website, email your domicile reps and request a new vote.

I understand an unrelated vote is coming soon and this issue could be added to that vote.

Let SWAPA's BOD know they are not supporting the membership by fighting age 60.

What is your definition of "tons".

I went over there and since this only came up a couple days ago, I didn't see maybe 10 to 20 people actively talking about this idea.

I'm curious ... acknowledging how divisive age 60 is for its membership, many unions have adopted a "neutral" stance. Why, then, has SWAPA chosen to spend its resources on an issue that can't help but divide your union?

Is it possible that SWAPA foresees pay cuts in your future and this is the only way to make up the shortfall (i.e., working longer?) Why else would SWAPA devote union money to challenge this? I have a difficult time believing SWAPA is in this simply to correct a perceived "injustice".

PS Just a gentle rib! If age 60 is overturned I can't wait to see the old farts taxiing at 7 kts with a "death grip" on the tiller! I wonder if they'll all start to wear those HUGE sunglasses like the eye doc gives you after dilating your eyes? Will the female captains dye their hair blue like all the other little old ladies?

Our union president has not done a dang thing for this membership in 3 years except jump in bed with the company and negotiate more "productivity" for the pilots RIGHT AFTER saying we were not negotiating and delaying our section 6 for half a year or more.

Since HE is in favor of Age 60 repeal he continues to use a vote that is older than our current contract to push his agenda.

Rant off.

BBB, why do you suppose SWA is thinking of moving to phoenix? The heat is better for those old bones... ;)

The Age 60 rule does not hang on the outcome of any referrendum. But then again how many anti-discrimination laws do? We don't turn civil rights over to majority rule.

The more this issue is trotted out for re-vote,...the more it is seen for what it really is...a seniority issue, and not a safety issue!!!

ALPA is all peaches and cream now isn't it.

What Gup is insinuating is some of the crap thats been going on within the Union for about as long as there has been a Union. Its got kinda thick as of late. It certainly is an issue that the strong politically voiced few who are going at it. Its serious. But nothing that we're divided about to the point of arguing with each other. The age 60 thing isn't even that huge of an issue. We all have opinions but thats as far as it goes...for now.

So...no trouble in paradise. Sorry to disappoint you kitty.

I agree that there is no trouble in "LUV Land".

The union vote that is being talked about is whether or not to spend union money lobbying for a change. Most of the SWAPA stance on this issue has to do with the current admin. in office at SWAPA. We have spent a lot of money on this and now we are headed into Sec. 6, and a lot of guys are starting to wonder if we should be spending our money differently.

As for me I think it should be changed, but not until I'm 59. Is that wrong?;)
