SWA trng dates

I am new at this. Has anyone heard of possible trng dates at SWA?

You mean new hire classes? Hiring continuously, I heard 1 class in Sep. and back to three classes a month starting in Oct. Class sizes are about 20-24. 500-600+ in '06.

How old and reliable is this info? I heard one class in Oct, one in Nov and maybe one in Dec. The slowdown in the summer still has not been explained to me.

Another source said only 3 more classes this year. The Sep class would be 1 of 3.


Traditionally, classes slowdown at the end of the year and get rolling again in Jan.

But it is recent. A person from HQ called me regarding an applicant (I was one of thier references) and the info came from him. He was actually a line pilot and interviewer, too. In order to meet 500ish new hires this year (which they are still claiming) they'll need more than three more classes.

As far as how many are in the pool, I'm not sure but I know that the wait times from congrats call to class were only a couple months or so...

Add'l info: only 353 hired so far this year. Approx. 7 more classes to 500, if that is to happen...

Very good news. The info I got was from CP's and those that said they talked with a CP.

I think the HQ and interviewers have better info.

i'm waiting on a date. last word i got from PD a few weeks ago (and they weren't entirely certain) was at least 1 per month till the end of the calendar year and about 100 in the pool. there was also talk about the number of classes was dependent on when they finished the construction projects in the sim bldg.

Or does it mean after the September class the next one will be December or January?

The recruiter told us that people who received the 'career phone call' were told they should expect a December-January class date. I assume individuals who have been in the pool for a longer period of time should get one earlier. Hope this helps.

Hey Guys,

I am with one of those airlines that is getting big press about going bankrupt. Does SWA still require a 737 type? I heard they dropped that requirement a few years ago but it looks like it is back. Can you verify that?

They never dropped it, but they did remove the requirement to have it before you interview. That said, I was told flat-out in January by an SWA recruiter that they weren't calling anyone this year who didn't have it already.

Officially, you have to get it within 6 months of the job offer. But unofficiallly, as I said, you won't get that far without it.

One of the applicants in our interview group (mid-June 2005) did not have a 737 type. He enrolled at Higher Power the following week but, regrettably, was not selected to continue past the DB. He did interview without the type though (100% certain-sure FWIW).

From my understanding, people don't find out about class date until about 1 mo prior to the class beginning. So September class calls may be going out now if they haven't begun already. Has anyone received a call for Sept yet?

i heard from a friend inside that there probably wouldn't be a sept class, but they'll pick up around the holidays.

It seems that some of the ATA guys are getting called for interviews without a type rating. Not sure though. I do not know of one other person who has been "pre-hired" in the past few years. People in the "know" are saying, no type no interview. Hope this info helps. If you are lucky enough to get called for an interview without a type rating, then by all means wait until you get the "call" before you invest the money.
