SWA & Traffic violations, revisited

A couple of my buds have just about convinced me to attempt the jump over to SWA. I went to the website and developed my indentity and then browsed the forms to gather info so that I can return and fill them out. I notice the question about traffic violations. I've searched this forum and read Ms. Lang's quoted response. I have no problem disclosing my past discretions at the traffic lights and back roads of America.........


But, Calvins gettin old and he don't live in the past. Men, I haven't a clue about the total number of speeding tickets I received twenty five years ago, when I got caught, nor in which parrish I happened to be at the time.

Help me out here, I'd disclose em, if I could remember em.

My preliminary plan is to send off for my NDR. I'll certainly disclose anything that is included on it, and in addition I'm thinking about adding a statement to the effect that I did receive moving violations when I was a young man, am willing to admit them, but just don't remember the specifics anymore. I'll attempt to accurately recreate my discretions and report them, but I'm just not sure how to deal with the unknown (or long ago forgotten). BTW, I've forgotten a couple of other unpleasant experiences from the seventies as well. And a couple of problematical girlfriends too. I just find it easier to maintain mental health when I dump past unpleasant experiences.

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Does SWA or anyother employer for that matter, have the legal right check someone's driving record further back then ten years? I understand the legally sanctioned TEN year criminal background check, but going back further than that to search for speeding tickets just doesn't seem right.

Well now that depends upon what the definition of report is. If they ask for the amount of times I've been sodomized by a computer, I could tell them about the times I've been stuck on hold by Compaq tech support. Would that count?

Johnny I would like to agree, but they make the rules and if I decide to pursue employment there, I'll follow their rules. I never compromise principle, but reporting all of my speeding tickets isn't a principle. If they decided to ask me to renounce my religion, I might walk, a man's got to know which battles to fight. Ya know, like knowing when to raise and when to fold.

Make as clear and simple declarations of all the violations you can remember. If you can only remember an approximate year and state, then say it that way. If you have left a trail of them through many states and truly can't remember how many then put the ones you do remember, certainly those within the last 10 years and leave it at that. "To the best of my memory, these are all the ones I have had"...type of mentality. Hope that helps,

You are on the right track. When I went through the hiring process at SWA, I listed the tickets I could recall, and then made a statement saying I had several other speeding tickets prior to 19XX and that I could not recall the specifics nor did I have any record of them.

If you're in the same boat as I am, that's about as honest as you can be, and that's all SWA is looking for as well.

Thanks Chase and KLJ. I certainly intend to be honest, but I honestly can't remember. Back in high schrool, I drove a small parts delivery truck. Back then, business insurance standards must have been pretty lax, because my boss encouraged us to make quick rounds. My run was rural West Texas (hours between stop signs) and I must have gotten five or six speeding tickets in about two years. Fines must have not been bad back then either. I never lost my license. For that matter I never even had to go to court. Life was simple, the trooper caught you, you sent in your fine and everybody was happy. Ah, the good ol days. I've received another five or so over the last twenty-five years, of which I can only remember the last two.

I guess that I'll just make a statement along the lines that KLJ suggested and take my chances.

BTW, I only received one speeding ticket in my hotrod, and I've driven a lot of them. All painted bright red. They've all been in either a pickup truck or my wifes station wagon. Go figure.
