How good is it getting your references called after your interviewed at southwest. I mean what are the chances after that of getting the, your hired call?

This changes from one DB to another. A rough gouge (very rough) is that 25% of follks don't get past the interview process. Another 25% are eliminated at the DB for various reasons. That leaves SWA with about a 50% selection rate. Last one was below that %, other DB this year have been slightly above. No way to "really" know so wondering/worrying while hard to avoid doesn't do much to make my prediction come true or not.

Focus on what you can control at this point; pressing on with your flying career, preparing for an alternate if SWA doesn't work out, start the process for upgrade, etc. Most importantly...take your hands off the keyboard, step away from the computer, take a deep breath & log off, turn off the computer & enjoy the family......go ahead and assume you won't hear anything for a good 4 weeks and make these the most productive 4 weeks of your life...do the things you've been putting off doing during the entire period you were applying to SWA...let the chips fall where they may. Do call your references (if you have any at SWA) & makes sure they put in their electronic references by the end of this month...that is usually the deadline. Good luck,

Chase,

Good advice. When I went thru I was all exicited when I got the call for the drug test. Then I heard they were calling my references. Actually, I don't remember which event happened first, but I took them as good signs.

Then I heard absolutely nada! Every day I'd go to the mailbox dreading getting the bad letter. Each day I didn't hear anything made the next trip to the box ever more difficult.

Then one day I was running way late for my trip to Korea and was out the door when I remembered I didn't go to the mailbox. I opened it completely forgetting about SWA and there it was front and center, a tan envelope.

Suddenly I froze. I ended up going back into the house and I sat on my bed for what had to be ten minutes and I just looked at the envelope. I remember giving myself this little pep talk, assuring myself that flying international charter isn't so bad.

Well, I finally opened it up. It was the legal letter which said, but didn't say, I had a job. I had to call a buddy at SW to 'decode' the letter. He assured me it was the good letter.

I left for Osan and a week or so later I landed in Seattle. I fired up my cell phone and there was a message from the OAK chief pilot. So I called him back right from the flight deck and he goes 'Are you calling me from Korea?' I told him I had just gotten back, and how did he know I was there? (He had called my parents number looking for me). Anyway, he said "I just have one more question: What size leather jacket do you wear?"

That was so cool! I started writing down my class date information and the other two FO's on my trip who were reading over my shoulder were like "You got a class date with SW! You bastard!" I was like "What are you complaining about, you just went up a number."

Anyway, that was just the greatest feeling in the world.

Wow.. I just realized this, but that phone call was seven years ago next week.

So back to the point of the message... YES do anything to take your mind off of it. If it's meant to be it will be. Don't make yourself crazy. The waiting can turn into agonizing torture if you let it.

I think the trick is keep your mind on your present job. Find things to do in your off time besides stressing out.

And when you get the call make sure you do something to properly commemorate the occasion!

RVR,

Great story...my point exactly....I remember my call also...great time but as you said, keep busy & focus on what you're doing now or one's back up plan. Still a great feeling after all these years! Gotta prep for my PC!!

My call..

My young daughter was being taught how to answer the phone..

One of the things that we had been trying to teach her was how to handle someone selling something. We get alot of phone marketing.

Anyway.

One day she answered the phone and I was next to her and she talks a few moments and says"no thank you..We arnt interested".

She hung up the phone..I asked her who it was..She said"someone selling somthing."I said what was the name..

She said "Im not sure, but I think he said Captain_____".
I nearly fainted,had a heart attack,and a stroke at the same moment..

Needless to say when the Asst CP from BWI called the second time, I answered the phone.

I interviewed last Thursday and 3 of my references were contacted earlier this week. Anyone know how the timeframe from having your references called until you get the call for the drug test? Or does the drug test come after the 'continue' call?

If you are approved by the decision board, then you will be called and told you are continuing and will be asked to take a drug test.
