Does anybody know where I can get: SWA checklists (to practice flows), SWA profiles, and a good CD-ROM systems for the 737 300-700? I also have no FMS experience. I know the training, once I get there, is outstanding, but you know. I'm in the pool and just want to be prepared for the best airline in the world! Appriciate anything you could muster, in advance! Right on!

Whoa, whoa, whoa...

What are you trying to do to yourself??? Have a beer and relax!

If you really need something to do, Buy the PASS cards from pansmith and read through them a few times. You'll get the memory items and the limitations with them, But you are STILL overstudying if you do that. You have a type right? Don't worry about the 700, they'll cover it at school in about a day. Seriously. Don't worry about the FMC either, they'll cover that too.

Here's my best advice, don't worry about training at all, try to have a life before you get to the school house. Spend a week on the beach or something. It's miserable being stuck in that hotel for a month and a half and you'll appreciate all the time you spent NOT studying before you got there.

You'll do great, so just relax...... :)

all right, all right

What a flippin nerd, all you guys are thinking. I actually live on a beach and quite possibly have the coolest base in the world, with the exception of OAK! All right, the pass cards are enough? This is my last stop, SWA, and I want to have fun in ground school, but I also want to be prepared. I takes me just a little longer to learn things and a little piece of mind would go a long way. Throw me a bone, would ya? Gratzi.

The Pass cards are plenty, especially if you get them all down (and they include the boxed memory items, so that's another thing you won't have to worry about). I wouldn't worry about the flows until you get there.

If you want to have a few kicks while you learn something, go get Microsoft Flight Sim 2002--it has a reasonable 737 in it. Then go check out www.dreamfleet2000.com where you can download an add-on 737 (It's a -400, but it's close enough). It includes an MCP and FMC that are accurate enough that you can teach yourself (it has a tutorial) how to run it, and most of the overhead and console panels so you can practice the flows, etc.

Beats reading a dry old manual, and you can buzz the casinos in Las Vegas and practice getting slam dunked by ATC ;)

If you want some more study material, you can check out www.canovair.com for their cockpit guides. Covers the -200 and -300/500 (not sure if he has a -700 yet).

But to echo what's been said above, if you do what they tell you to do after you get to school, they will get you through the program. Spend "some" time preparing yourself beforehand, but don't devote your life to it or anything. Spend the "quality time" with your family and friends, because you won't get a whole lot of it for several months after you start...

Thanks

I really appreciate it. Don't worry, I wont go crazy with the new wealth of knowledge. Just wanted to "brush up." Allllrighty then, gonna go have some fun now.

I would be careful about getting Canova stuff..

The reason that its not as good as the Pansmith PASS Cards is that Bob writes the Cockpit review for America West guys and alot of the limitations and answers to questions are based on America West material..

The pictures are OK for study but its an awful lot of money just for pictures when you are going to get them in school anyway..

Stick with the PASS cards..

I revived this thread for the benefit of the new guys.

I would just add that since it has been a while since we earned the B737 thingy on the back of our certs, it might be a good idea to review systems stuff from your type rating school materials. You know, TR 3? Nail Glitter? Ringing any bells?

The cards that pretty much all new hires use are PASS..

These are a product of a SWA captain and are very good..The best $40 plus $5 for shipping you can spend..

Hi y'all-
Are those PASS cards specific to SWA procedures? And for each 3/5/700? I have been "flying" dreamfleets 737-400 on FS2002 which is an awesome replica with working switches and autopilot to stay somewhat in the ballpark! I just purchased some CD roms for CBT systems training - I'll let y'all know if they're any good. I still have my Higher Power books, but that's for the -200 only. Glad to hear class won't be too stressful so i'll just keep simming and enjoy the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party this week in Jax.

GO DAWGS!

Relax. Relax. Relax.

Everything you need to know, they will teach you.

And then, most of what you learn in ground school, you will forget quickly anyway on the line.

If you must do something cause you just don't believe me, then read the PASS cards. I bought them, but to be honest, I never used them till my off-probation PC.

Just show up with an open mind and a good attitude, and you'll be fine!

Have fun!!!
