Having to take a red eye is not a commutable trip. If you're not getting home the same day your trip ended, then you're losing a day off. Suddenly an 18 day off line is really a 14 day off line.
When you spend all night flying back to the east coast on a red eye and don't get home until 7am, no, that's not a day off. But like I said, brick wall.

If it's not a day off, what exactly do you classify a 24 hour period in which you do not go to work and is spent at your place of residence?
Landing in MSP at 6am and then driving to Maple Grove by 7am still is work related Howie, you have to do it for work. It's different then a one hour drive home after getting off your own plane.
As I said before, your looking at the wrong city pair and the wrong base. Keep searching Junior Sherlock and maybe you'll come up with it.
As it stands I spend more waking hours at my home than I would any other way albeit with a little less sleep than I would like but luckily I sleep soundly on the aircraft.
