I took a look, just hit $102 an hour here as an F/O flying guarantee at 75/76 hours a month with 18 days off a month I will make $90k pre-tax here no per diem included
Now use your old contract numbers. Not that money is everything I know that. I know a guy that was an 11 yr CA, now FO in MCO. He says he makes more, better quality of life and now enjoys coming to work. He seems pretty happy about the deal.

If you volunteered to be part of the first 169 pilots to transfer in 2012, you shouldn't be bitching. He could have opted out and held Capt. in ATL. Shows how big a deal being in base is. Trumps the left seat for many.

Why?

I'm simply looking at what I make now versus what I'll make there and whether it's worth it to lose my seniority now or wait until the very end. For me, it's not all about the money; for others it is.

Different strokes and all that, and a $35-40k raise is nothing to sneeze at, especially for our F/O's who were 5-7+ years (if ever) away from upgrade here based on our delivery schedule. Most of those guys can't get there fast enough, which is where most of the angst of the out-of-seniority movement to SWA is coming from.

I'll probably end up foregoing about $60-70k by not going over until the end. But keeping my 18 days off a month, weekends off, holidays off, getting my pick of layovers (this month it was a choice between a 24 hr AUA layover every week with 18 days off or PUJ/CUN/SJU with 19 days off), and NOT being on reserve is more than worth that kind of coin.

Unless something changes with my financial needs, I'll be staying put until we turn the lights out and bring the flag. My flying goal in life was to fly heavy metal internationally for a Flag carrier about 12-14 days a month, one long leg out, sit 24-36 hours, 1 leg home, basically what my old man did back in the 80's, 90's, and early 2000's. This is as close as I've come so far and I'm really enjoying it, so I'll hold onto it as long as I can. :)

That sounds about right, and I think we're talking about the same guy that I know is doing some serious ELITT and POT picking. Coming from 11 yr CA and Chk Airman he was holding ALMOST top 25% of the bidding pile, but there he's probably #1 or #2 F/O in MCO.

I'm glad he's happy, and I know the vast majority of our guys will be happy as well once they adjust to their new reality.

What 8 year CA transitioned to SWA? The most junior CA I can see with an award is a October 2002 hire, with a January SWA class. That means he is leaving $162. an hour to go to your FO pay. Not a gain.

I know a tranny that was an APR or MAR 2001 hire that has crossed over to SWA already.

But that's part of the rub Lear. The contract your under now is because of Southwest. Not saying it shouldn't be better (or that you thought you were shorted), but it was almost instantly after the announcement to purchase was released...poof, a new improved contract from what you had. So what you had before the SW announcement vs. what you would have on this side of the fence would be a more realistic comparison. You may never agree with me, but that's the true apples to apples difference. How many more years was Joe going to continue to stonewall you?

However, because BF was simultaneously in talks with SWA for a merger during the last year of our contract talks those talks were stalled (from management's side) because they had no incentive to move on and get a deal. They were waiting for a conclusion to merger talks before moving on to the pilots. So, in some ways SWA artificially lengthened the negotiations. As to exactly where the quality of the contract would have ended up with/without a merger is arguable.

Is that bad?

Referencing senior or junior making the transition. You have a good number of folks that transitioned from MKE and MCO. There are some relatively junior capts and FO's who got to transition out of seniority because they were at those bases. I think it would have been more fair to put those slots up to the whole group and then do a reduction notice for the base. That way a more senior AT FO gets the pay raise and a more senior AT Capt doesn't have to commute.

Red; Joe retired a while back. The common denominator in all our negotiations was Kolski.

There's plenty of mid 2004 hires that have transitioned over. I'm one of them and I was ATL based. I was also a captain my last 4 years at the Tran. Pay wise I break even at around 95 TFP.

More 717 slots transitioned in year one. I suppose my example is geared more towards the 737. Thanks for the pay comparison. Many of our folks try to convert the two pays using hourly rate instead of TFP an it skews the numbers.

Yup, that's the truth. We were getting nowhere with no end in sight, except Joe was gone and it was Bob F. who was at the helm.

Roger about the K-man vs Joey. Anyway, water under the bridge. I'd like to see it all behind us quickly but they never called for my opinion.

There is the rub Red. Why do you still have 2 seperate contracts? Say WHAT???? HUH????? WHY? SWAPA should have stopped that. A JOINT contract should have been done. Without one, it's hard to feel "the luv." Let's look at RECENT mergers. Which ones have been considered "successful", and which ones have been considered "a train wreck?" You guys had the chance to look at both before your own transaction. Which road did you take? HMMMMMMM. The WRONG ONE. But, overall your group did better, which is why there is a problem. Higher pay always takes the STING away from SLI bad feelings. You did that, but one guy at a time going to Corndog Highschool.

What is funny to many of us is that you thought the feeling "Hey, I'm now a Corndog. That's enough for me to feel AWESOME. I'll wait for the pay later" was going to work...... Red, money talks.

Nobody will call you Red, nobody has your Mom's basement phone number. And I bet a lot of you would like to see this all behind you, but hard feelings can linger...
