Talked to a buddy of mine today who had his check-ride at Higher Power this morning. He said SWA came by and told his class no more hiring for the rest of the year. Even said Feb classes will be canceled. Has something to with a big anouncement to come. Merger rumors are running ramped. Anyone else hear anything like this?

Hardcorr,

I wasn't there but have spoken to others who were...they're recall of what was said didn't include your friends perspective at all.....yes there will be a temporary lull in interviewing...1 or 2 months....classes are still scheduled for Feb & appear at this time to be on...I know of folks who have been called for those classes....could they be called back & have the classes cancelled? Yes but I haven't heard of that happening before except after 911 & then the class was reinstated shortly after that. The sky isn't falling for Southwest by any means...while no one has a definitive view of the future I believe there is reason to be optimistic....hope that quells the rumor mills somewhat but probably not!!!!

Pause:

I have two friends interviewing this week at SWA. If SWA was stopping hiring (and especially if they were considering cancelling classes), why would they not have cancelled this weeks interviews? Ergo, interviews this week would indicate that hiring and training will continue, vis a vi more classes.

The party is scheduled for Tuesday night, I start training on Wednesday morning, the reservations for the hotel are confirmed, as are the must ride tickets, and a class started this past Tuesday. Other guys I interviewed with in September just got calls confirming March classes.

Why do people keep saying SWA is done interviewing or training?

zwinner & freezer: what's your start date in march? And congrats!!

ps- dr feelgood: I'm not sure. They're both ATA guys, but called competitively, before getting furloughed.

No kiddin', the dream is coming to reality this Wednesday, Feb 16 for me. I'm packing today to be in Dallas tomorrow for the welcome party! And then maybe I'll actually stop looking at this sight so much!

Chase was saying that it is your only look at the first day on the job at SWA, not the last job you will ever have. Everyone knows better than to feel too secure.

merger/buy out

Lots of talk about a big announcement in a few weeks. If it is a merger/buy out, the only one that makes any sense for SWA is AAI.

You crack me up, man.

What could Airtran possibly have that SWA wants or needs? They certainly don't have enough B737s to warrant it, and who wants ATL and all that crap. B717s? Forget about it.

It's all rumor. SWA stuck their necks out in this ATA deal, and it's far from over in that regard.
