I'm just in process of the SWA application. I'm very curious will getting the type rating help your chances of getting an interview substantially? Is it worth the risk of spending the money even before you have an interview? Your thoughts please

If SWA is your career goal then yes spend the dough, getting the type will improve your chances of scoring an interview sooner.

Decision Board

SkiMoguls, did you get the dreaded letter, or the outstanding phone call? I interviewed on 12 May and I got the call today. Yeeehaaaa, life is good. I know one of my buds that didn't get hired and have no idea why I'd get picked and not him. Both of us had our contacts called. Anyway, I was told that I'd start training sometime around the end of the year, October time frame. Good luck and cheers,

I got a phone call luckily. I interviewed on the 6th of May and got called on the 21st. There was a good mix of military and regional guys on my interview day. 2 Skywest, 1 ASA, 2 Comair, 1 furloughed UA, and 5 military. Can't wait for the LUV! Congrats and see you soon!

Turn - are you airline or corporate? Typed or not typed. If typed, when and where did you get your type? Trying to figure out if where you get your type makes a difference.

Just curious to find out how SWA would know where you got your type rating from? Unless you include the name of the school in the education section of your application, there would be no way for them to know unless a list has been handed to them from certain schools. An interesting point to ponder and I am curious as to how many guys submit the name of their type school on their app. I did not, maybe I should...well wait, I didn't go to HPA so I better not :).

Major-I am airline and I do have the 737 type which I got at HPA. They don't know where I got my type though and I am sure they don't care. From what I can tell Southwest is not into playing games when it comes to the hiring process. Nothing that I have experienced so far could ever be construed as tricky or somehow unfair. They do hire off competative mins but I think they try to get a good smattering of all parts of aviation, ie military, airline, corporate, etc. Hope this helps.

School name

Varmint, the SWA folks just asked me during my interview where I got my Type rating, K&S in PHX.

Mach Zero, did you have to go to Dallas for the test?
I live in Dallas. They used a third party contract lab to do the test. This lab company had three locations from which I could choose in the DFW area.

The next DB will meet on July 20th

From SWA, the next DB will meet on July 20th.

For those individuals who interviewed in May and am waiting for the July 20th Board, keep the faith :)

Good Luck to all of those interviewing.

Stash,

Cool. I got mine at K&S also. From what I have heard from a couple of friends and on here, the interview selection process is very fair with the computer doing the selections from pre-set parameters. Did you get the job or are you still waiting?

Pool question

My first post so here goes.....Good news for the Oti.. Southwest gave me the call that I am continuing the process and I went and gave warm bodily fluid in in a bottle yesterday. I was on the most recent D.B. and I am getting my type rating starting 26 July. I am available for a class date in Oct. My question for you Southwest guys/gals is if 20 July is the next D.B. will all of those guys that have their type ratings be ahead of me coming out of the pool? I interviewed first but 95% of those guys will already have type ratings. Southwest is a phenominal company and I am blessed and proud to be associated with them. Thanks in advance for any input. Otis out...

Otis18, That is what I have heard. You get a class date in order of interview date or type rating whichever is later.

July DB

My sources at SW say the July DB is on the 15th. Just trying to gage when that phone call or letter might come. Also, I've had some of my contacts called however, my one SW contact has not been called. Is that normal?

Varmit, I got "the call" on 22 May, last Tuesday. Did the Pee test the same day. Kim at the SWA PD told me, like all the others, expect Oct - Nov timeframe, but, call back in three weeks to confirm. I did my ATP written in January of this year and my type, with the flying portion of the ATP, in March. Got the interview call less than a month after that and interviewed two weeks later. I feel really fortunate to have been called, to pass the interview and get hired. It really seemed like a great company when I went to interview. At the interview, the PD people said that if "we didn't want to work for SWA more when we left that day than before we got there, then they hadn't done their job right." Well, it's true, I sure did want to work for them more then, than when I got there. Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting another career. The military has been great, but, I'm ready to relax a little. Cheers,
