Let me preface this by saying I want to be the last one to help line Kit Darby’s pockets. I think the gouge on this board and select others are just as timely and informative.

That being said I know that SWA normally attends the Air Inc Seminars and hosts an open house when in DAL. They have been listed as “taking resumes” at the conference even though the app window has been closed. I also heard that prior to 9/11 that guys without type ratings who attended the open house were called just as quickly as those with the type rating.

Can any of the poolies or recent hires confirm any of this? With the new “competitive” discriminators in place I don’t know if this would make a difference or not in either the interview queue or at the decision board, but nothing beats pressing the flesh and rubbing elbows.

My app has been in for two years now and I got my type just as interviews cut off in March of 2002. I should have been at the top of the pile, but I’ve been pushing freight in a piston and need to improve my standing.

Thanks for any input.

I don't speak for SWA but feel free to contact SWA's PD at 214.792.4000 & ask for the pilot recruitment, People Dept & they can tell you for sure if they are going to attend.

As to whether attending Kit's show is worth it, lots of opinions, mine aren't worth much more than those so I'll refrain. You decide. I would expect SWA would show & may even host something at the training center. The app window opens up on 12 Jan '04 but it will be all electronic. Pressing the flesh at Air, Incl won't do much in the way of getting you to the head of the line but certainly you'll have a chance to hear the PD spread the word exactly as it is at that moment.

The "competitive" aspect of screening apps will be much talked about & speculated on. If you are still after 2 yrs flying in the same job, with the same equipment I would recommend you look for something in a more complex aircraft or a step up to the left seat if you aren't already there. Being current, showing progression in the job, moving up the ladder of aircraft complexity is always important. As you know some don't even have wings to fly so just having a flying job is good but as you said, making yourself more competitive is important. Good luck,
