Has SWA officially announced what they are going to do with the B717's
that are coming from Airtran?

Just wondering.....

And that's in one day by a single crew!

As of now they will be kept and configured to 122 seats with a base in ATL and probably either DAL or OAK.

It would cost Southwest millions to return the airplanes and a loss of good will with Boeing.

No formal or informal announcement, only speculation.

With 86 717 and 25 -500s, both seating 122, SWA now has 100 smaller aircraft to deploy to different regions of the country that can fly optimized city pairings that make more sense for 717/-500 aircraft.

Obvious city pairings in TX from HOU and DAL.

From MDW, you have IND, CMH, DAY, OMA and more

From OAK you have RNO, PDX, ONT, LAX, BUR

From BWI you have MHT, PVD, ORF, RDU, BDL, SDF, RIC

ATL has the majority of those city pairings now and whether we keep all of those cities will be interesting to see but expect to add CHS and GSP to that list also.

MCO and PHX has some natural combinations also. Would expect some cities to not see too many if any of the smaller aircraft but the nice thing is there are now options available to optimize the schedule for different aircraft size.
