8 717's are "owned", all 8 have been encumbered under a debt facility. None of the 717's are owned outright.

78 717''s are leased. 41 of the 78 were sale/lease back transactions, the other 37 were purchased by a third party and leased to airtran. The leases expire through 2022.

Boeing could care less what happens to the 86 717's, there have been sold and the lease payments are going to someone else.

The Boeing Capital Co is the lessor.
 
Sure it does if Boeing gets enough orders for it. They don't currently make anything in that size range and the only other choices are to order bigger less durable RJs from Bombardier or Embraer. I think if Boeing relaunched this plane again that it would have a lot more interest from a lot more Airlines than last time around. Look at Delta, they want to buy the entire fleet of AAI's just to replace the -30's they just retired.
 
The 737-600's been such a waste...sucks the 717 was only in production 7 years...shoulda just kept it around a few more yrs...156 frames...only slightly more "successful" than the MD-90.

Not all. Look at the placard by the flight deck door. Some are owned by Wells Fargo, others by the PRC (People's Republic of China) . .. . OK, just kidding about the PRC, but some are owned by a foreign bank, Scotland, maybe? Been a while since I've flown a 717.
