Quote used by legacy pilots about WN in the 80s.....

Yeah, and look what happened there. You guys ran off with the freakin tent.

What you'll probably find is that the guys doing the negotiating with the company (usually senior) will sell out the small jet flying in a heart beat. "Who would want to fly those small jets anyway?". The company will say, "you're too expensive to fly them." "We can't add another fleet type". "It's only temporary until we can find a suitable main line aircraft."

Whatever... Don't buy any of it. This should be the third rail of negotiations. Once it starts, you'll never get it stopped because the company becomes addicted to the ever cheaper low bidders begging to do your flying.

We have more RJs flying DL passengers than main line aircraft. It's insidious and they're all future captain's positions or guys below you on the seniority list. Good luck!

I think this hole thing got started from the letter the Southwest union sent out that talked about scope...

I also heard that a major announcement will be made by SWA on November 7th. :cartman:

Latest rumor going around Skywest is that there is a "done deal", (to be announced in Januaury) that they will fly up 100 CRJ 1000's for Southwest Airlines. I hope this is just another quick upgraders delerium. Just what we need more RJ's, more under paid non-union pilots with basement level benifits and retirement packages. SWA guys tell me this isn't going to happen right..? Will we ever learn..
Any truth to this RUMOR?

Under SWA latest scope agreement, only union airlines are able to code share.

NewmanF16This would kind of blow SWAs "you'll always fly on a big 737" ad campaign out of the water.

Great point. Do you guys really think SWA would launch this ad campaign only to undermine it a few months later with a regional codeshare? Granted, most airline managers don't think that far ahead, but this is SWA.

This ad alone is enough to debunk the RJ rumor.

I heard SKYW is going to drop all feed to Delta and United and switch, essentially overnight to SWA. How will those two do with out the feed to their hubs?

If SWA could do that I buy beer for every SWA crew I saw for the rest of my career. Many of the airplanes flying for Skywest were bought and paid for by DL, though, so those would have to be repo'ed.

Our latest contract update from our union says they are happy with our newest scope language just finished up.
Our union president also says he expects SWA to sign a codeshare with a regional airline in the very near future.

This is, like 99% of rumors here, a bunch of BS.

SWA management doesn't let captains in on their secrets so they can spill them to you when you're on the jumpseat.

Someone should do some research and list every 'big announcement' or 'done deal' thread in the last 5 years that amounted to nada. That'd be a long list... didn't buy alaska, didn't go international, didn't get bought by that oil company, didn't go to honey-roasted - oh wait that did happen.

I'm with whoever mentioned the latest Southwest ads. One of the benefits Southwest has been toting is being able to actually carry on your carry-on. How would this be possible with a regional? Unless SKYW gets ERJs. Not very likely since the goal is as few airplane types as possible.
