Type rating!!! There are many more factors (PIC, instructor, etc). But rough numbers: >8000 SWA apps in the system. <2000 with type. (from a friend who just got back from HP). I understand the sacrafice you have to make to pay for it, believe me, I got six kids and plucking down close to $9K after all is said and done is a lot.

As for having someone walk your resume in, I do not believe you can game the system with an "inside" ace in the hole. The references are not looked at until the interview. From what I have been told they call for interviews based on computer searches and they vary the search so I do not see a magic number you have to reach. Look at those called and those not. Their pesonal stats vary. I can say 2000 PIC seems to be fairly common factor with most called.

Take this info for what is worth, I am sure there are others much more informed than myself. I am just one of the newest and very happy poolies. Good luck

Congrats to the 6 July class...I've heard there maybe more good news for folks who are in the pool so make sure you have everything ready to go.

For those awaiting a call for an interview...being patient is easier said than done but realize that the competition is keen & it will take some time to get to you. Yes the system from the outside appears arbitrary & difficult to comprehend. The good thing is that at least for June & July the numbers of interviewees is increasing slightly to re-fill the pool. Does it mean you'll get the call? Certainly not but they are chipping away toward you and that is always good.

Looking for the silver bullet that will get you the interview is the hope of all but that Holy Grail is not out there in my opinion. Certainly you can keep updating your resume with hours, new qualifications, type, etc. That is under your control. It is very frustrating there is no doubt but realize there are folks walking on the property this month that one year ago had no clue either of what it would take to get an interview, didn't know anyone at SWA, didn't have letters of references from anyone at SWA or had 10 letters from SWA pilots, were civilians/military, had a type, didn't have a type, were at a regional, were active military, were furloughed....& now they are walking in the door to work for a great company. All of the above illustrates your life changes a lot when reflected with a rearview mirror....not so much when looking at the road in front so just be prepared & keep on pitching.....I wish you all the best & keep a lot of irons in the fire to make sure you keep the billcollectors at bay!!!!

Just talked to PD. They said it was only scholarship interviews they were doing that week and noone had thier type rating b/c they were all competing for a 737 scholarship. Again noone is interviewing w/ out the type.

I interviewed today and there were guys there without types. Im pretty sure they were all ATA bubbas. We had "18" in our interview group and it was a good mix: 6 ATA guys, 4-5 military(active, retired, reserve), and the rest were civilian guys from various backgrounds. Hard to keep track of all 18. The experience was amazing.....I hope you all get an opportunity to get down there soon.

BTW, IMHO the rumors about the pool running dry seem to be true. There were 3 new hire classes in training today and I dont think 18 is the normal number of interviewees. Good luck. If you want anymore info just let me know.

No, you have it wrong. "Noone" is a real person. It is pronounced "noo-nee". He has come a long way now from the old days. Good to see he has his ype and is interviewing at SWA.

At the flight school I used to instruct at (at KHUF) in the early to mid 90s there was a sign about "Noone".

He was a total sierra hotel pilot. The sign said, among other things:

If there are TRW in the area, noone is allowed to fly.

If the x-wind exceeds 20 kts (or something), noone is allowed to fly.

If the visibility is less that 3/4 mile, noone is allowed to fly.

Lots of other things "Noone" was allowed to do, I just can't remember all of them.

This was between the times that JM owned the flight school, and the sign was put up by "Junior".

YAY!!!

I got a phone call last Tuesday from Kim on my first day of vacation and am completely ecstatic! Needless to say the wife is already drinking the kool-aid!

I've seen a lot of info going around and here's my two cents (and numbers):

Typed in January
Applied in February
Called in April (remember they didn't interview for a while early in the year)
Interviewed in May
Called in June (13 days interview to hire!!!!!!!!!)

As far as the interview went (to all those waiting) I know of no magic formula and was only myself. That means I smiled a lot and was ALWAYS positive. I've seen some writing about opinions and that is all I can offer. I give hope to the common man.

Background is all military. I don't know anybody special at SWA and didn't do any paid interview prep. But be aware, to say I didn't prepare would be a lie. I typed all my forms, bound my flight time which I entered into Access and did a mock interview with my wife (many times) and a current FO.

I'd write more but I've seen a lot of info inthis forum and don't want to beat a dead horse.

She even offered me the June 15 class but I can't because of military commitments. She mentioned that the pool is dry because there are military folks in it but none are available.

Wow, Have I got this right....you were offered the job last Tuesday (7th?), and they asked if you could make the June 15th class? About a weeks notice? Dang thats quick...or did you mean July?

Yes, I was actually offered the JUNE 15 class (today). She said a slot had opened up. That would have been a quick turnaround from interview to hire had I been able to do it (about 3 weeks!).

Unfortunately I won't be able to make any class anytime soon until I finish up my military commitment. Looks like Christmas in Dallas this year!

In my group of 12 the 2 hired were me and a female captain from U. Makeup of our group was one active duty guy (me), one retired AF and the other 10 civilian.

Luvin' life - wow! 12 people in your interview "class" and only 2 got hired!! Is that what you're saying? I always thought it was more of a 50/50 shot. What are other guys out there saying about this? I wasn't able to keep in touch with the 18 guys I interviewed with in November, so I have no idea. I knew one other guy and he got hired too.

Too bad you have to wait until Xmas to get out. I got hired in January and have had to wait until July for the same reason. It can be tough watching dozens of others get their seniority number and go through training, but we are still incredibly fortunate to be wading.

I've been in the pool so long my fingers have pruned.

Got the call today. Just walked in the house from a trip and my wife said Kim called and offered the 6 July class. Not sure if I can take it. I am rushing my AF paperwork as fast as I can. Waiting on the personnel office in Texas to give the OK. Man this is FAST. Haven't come down from the high of getting the last call saying I made it.

Kim also said that there may be another class in July but that she did not have any dates yet.

Sorry Flynlow I know everybody on this board was routing for you.
