Did you say sniff?....Leave it to a dog

I can't say when classes will start, but in looking back at 2000, SWA had 21 new-hire classes. Gary Kelly mentioned 2000 in comparing new deliveries to 2004 (about the same number he said).

I would only assume there are more retirements of aviators coming in '04 than there were in 2000, so 21 or greater sounds like a good number to me.

Let's get those pencils sharpened boys and girls!

This is what I heard......

86 employees per aircraft
401 aircraft orders/options with boeing through 2012
47 new aircraft next year with 17 retirements
23 new aircraft in 2005 with 11 purchase options

2 billion cash on hand
2 more new aircraft coming this year (4th qtr)

Southwest 'casually' looking at smaller jets
Monday October 20, 11:09 am ET

CHICAGO, Oct 20 (Reuters) - Southwest Airlines' (NYSE:LUV - News) chief financial officer said on Monday that the carrier was "casually" looking at using smaller 100-seat jets but was not close to reaching a decision on the issue.
"It's something that we have only casually begun to look at and certainly haven't gotten serious," CFO Gary Kelly said in a conference call with analysts and reporters.

Southwest's fleet currently consists of only one type of aircraft, the Boeing 737. Kelly also said the Dallas-based low-cost carrier was considering in-flight entertainment offerings.

Interesting!

Bye Bye--General Lee

 ;)

small planes

I listened to the whole call. Very interesting.

The whole issue of the RJ/Small Jets came up in a Q & A afterward. Kelly basically said we look at everything and haven't discounted anything. He went on to say that one fleet type works for us and he wouldn't expect anything different anytime soon. Assigned seats was also mentioned, but he said that was "right out" too.

Good news all around, I would have liked a little more route growth news.

Did they say anything about a new city? MEM?

General, Gary Kelly didn't mention any specifics on a new city.
I listened to the whole thing and the impression I got was "East".
That narrows it down some!

Did I mention that Gary Kelly is my hero?

In addition,
nothing international either. ie mexico, canada, or caribbean.

Any immediate growth would be domestic.

Of course subject to change.
