Most cheap or fast food isn't healthy....

Agreed. Some people would rather look through preconceived stereotypes than do the hard work of identifying the problem then generating and implementing workable solutions. It's wrong to provide someone a permanent crutch. I don't believe welfare, personal or corporate, is a good idea. Workfare, however, is a very good idea. It serves our country's best interests to have a healthy and working population since healthy, working citizens pay more taxes than sick, unemployed citizens. Playing on racial stereotypes of car rims and Nikes serves no purpose except to boost the ego of the person spouting that nonsense.
 
I loved when I was a new hire at my first regional and the union guys came in and told us "Company bad, Union good. Sign this so we can take 2% of your paycheck after your first year".

So what is your solution?

Unions are only as good and effective as their members. It's a grassroots movement. If all someone does is pay dues and let those who seek election to union office run the run as they see fit, then the member paying the dues is going to become disappointed in their own union. A pilot who takes the responsibility of staying informed, attends meetings whenever he or she is able, votes every ballot and generally becomes as an active participant in their own union will not only have a better understanding of how their union works, but will be happier with the results.

Anyone can sit on their ass and bitch. It takes a leader to stand up and take action.

Union leadership (at the highest levels) does understand these principles very well. But it is in the interest of those senior people, and leadership, to present a different story to the lower rank and file.

When work rules demand that you have to pay a union member $50 just to plug in an extension cord, perhaps the unions have over stepped their bounds:

In this case, the convention work rules were nothing more than a system designed to pad the wallets of union workers, with no concern as to the level of value given.


Workers, whether union or not, must give value commensurate with the level of compensation. The perception of value must also be agreed upon by labor and management.

Hey this is flt info, you can't post this, Stop dealing in reality. You have to be FI PC. That unions are the most wonderful things ever put on the planet, no company has ever gone out of business, no pilot has ever taken a pay cut, no one has ever been laid off if they become to a union member.
 
Too much of a good thing is bad. Too much union power and you have inefficiencies, too little union power and you have slave labor. A nice balance has worked many times in the past. Don't forget that Southwest is the most unionized airline out there and the most successful.

That southwest is the most successful has nothing to do with the union. now that they managed to undercut everyone and gained markets they can afford to pay their pilots well for their help. Very soon now SW will be under cut by someone. Nothing wrong with that I believe in capitalism not socialism.
 
Correct me if I am wrong but before 9-11 Southwest pilots were the lowest paid pilots in the 100-200 seat market. Now with the 50% pay cuts at the other airlines they are now the highest by default. Not exactly what I would call heroic.
