I'm in a position to go to one of these carriers with my flight experience. Which one would you choose considering upgrade times, contract negotiations, fleet types, general QOL, etc.? Or would you just wait and see if something better comes along?

If you don't care about where you are based...then apply to both. You may not even have a choice. When you have a JOB OFFER from both, then you have a choice to make.

I haven't seen the Milpitas Chicken in a long time.....since I left Moffett in early 1989.

46 alumni.

Airtran is a PUBLIC company, at least you have an idea what management is doing. Up grade time is about 2 2/1 yrs, ATL base. They are renegotiating the contract.
Spirit is a PRIVATE company, so you don't really know whats going on. They announced big expansion and a bunch more airplanes. You get typed on A320. Up grade is about 3 to 3 1/2 years, FLL base.

I would apply for both and whoever hires you, you go.
Good luck!

Two very different companies. Really depends on what things are important to you. What are you looking for in an airline?

You are using information from us Yutz to make your career decision? Give us your Social security number, that will help us give you an even better recommendation!

It comes down to a couple of questions... Do you want a traditional yoke or a side-stick? Would you rather fly South (for the most part) including Central America and the Caribbean or would you rather spend a lot of time flying into the world's busiest airport?

I would say upgrade at AirTran will be trending toward longer than 2.5 years.

Upgrade at Spirit will be trending toward less than 3.5 years, if everything goes as planned (which is always a big IF).

Any thoughts from Spirit folks on this?

I'm ex-Spirit and had this choice a few years ago. I have since moved on to a "Brown" pasture. I chose Spirit based on their domicile which included Detroit at the time. I'm glad I left since they're closing the base. It looks as if you just can't pick an airline for a base anymore which including a trade for quality of life issues for slave labor pay and working conditions. Their management lost their integrity with the pilot group.

If you live in FL, you'll be safe for about 5 years, maybe. The investors just want a return on their investment and they really don't give 2 $hit$ about you, your family, your choice of domicile and ultimately your choice of airline.

I had a job offer at both airlines over 3 years ago.I picked AT because they had over 100 a/c on order and spirit nothing.knowing what i know now with the expension at spirit,i would have gonne there and avoid the commute since i live in fll.
Any one with a cristal ball for sale?
