Spirit FO's, desperate to achieve parity with the industry, ask the Captains to strike over FO wage disparity.

Spirit Captains, desperate to avoid finding themselves in an unemployment line, ask their FO's to back off on contract demands until the economy recovers.

Captain xxxx xxxxx, on the condition of anonymity, today informed this reporter that the FO's are unrealistic and irrational.

First Officer xxxx xxxxxx, on the condition of anonymity, today informed this reporter that the Captains are not concerned with the FO's plight.

Spirit Captains earn an average guaranteed base pay of $110,600 yearly. Unverified reports indicate that, on average, each Spirit Captain earns at least $140,000 per year. Captains who fly one or two overtime days per month are able to increase their income to approximately $160,000 per year.

Spirit FO's earn an average guaranteed base pay of $51,800 yearly. Unverified reports indicate that , on average, each Spirit First Officer earns at least $63,300 per year. First Officers who fly one or two overtime days per month are able to increase their income to approximately $70,000 per year.

These amounts were calculated from the Spirit pilot contract and assume an average Captain pay of $130/hour on a 72 hour guarantee and an average First Officer pay of $60/hour on the same guarantee.

Spirit CEO Ben Baldanza states that he wants all of his First Officers to become Captains within the next few years. Mr. Baldanza further states that the ULCC model allows Spirit to be successful in tough economic times and that he is proud of the number of jobs Spirit is providing in the present economic crisis.

The anonymous First Officer quoted above believes that the Captains are too selfish to strike.

The CEO with the carrot stick trick: you'll be a CA soon....don't concern yourself with FO pay...

What happens when the CA's are displaced/surplused??... do they want to be making crappy wages or better wages.....

Hey Spirit CA's..... wanna know how low you can go? How bad it can get? Just turn your head to the right.....

p.s. way to paint a big target for managment... drive wedge here!

You must have worked for Mesa and are used to taking it in the pooper...get your sack out of you purse Sally and stand up for yourself.

HL is on flightinfo too!

Ya, cause I want to work two overtimes days a month, that gives me 12 days off, spend six of them commuting, and now I have six days off at home for the month. I concur with mike - whoever who wrote this can f--------------- o-----------. walk in our shoes for a day azz wipe. How about an honest pay for an honest days work. SWA 1st yr FO pay is NK 3rd yr pay. 5yr FO at SWA makes more than a 5yr NK CAPT! I know we are not SWA, I get that, Airtran is at least 4 bucks an hour more same yr of service.

As an FO on 2nd year pay, I am more than happy to walk if need be. I could care less about the "carrot" they dangle, this pay is insulting and I need more due to all these bases they open and close!

Can someone remind me who the lowest paid Airbus captains are? Oops it is SPA CA's.

Does not surprise me...except I thought you cut it from a different source...that is a little strange, but we've all figured it out you are too f*********g stupid and got tricked by your own "trick" you ass.

I made about 20,000 total with Spirit before being furloughed.. the biggest insult came on my last flight when I had to listen to a captain talk about how the overtime he was making for the month would help him but another motorcycle that cost more than I made for the year

I'm sure he has bought another motorcycle by now...I was shocked at how many people were picking up open time. I'm not sure this place could run without people abusing the junior man clause in the contract--and only to their benefit.

If it comes to an actual strike 50+ new names to the scab list.

Dang, my bike cost less three grand and it's good for me. What motorcycle cost more than FO yearly pay?

50, 60, 70, maybe more. 50 year olds with no chance of ever again sitting left seat anywhere better than MESA may not care about being unable to "work in this business again"

I can assure that enough of us will walk the line! They cannot run an airline with 50 - 100 scabs anyway. I will make it my personal mission to advertise and humiliate any SCABS! Trust me when it comes down to it, enough of us will walk and they will have to shut it down!

It's beginning to look like Spirit WANTS to shut it down. Getting the union to do it for them would be the ultimate in irony.

We need a miracle.

Just for the record. You need to specify the time frame for the 20k or refrain from making a statement like that because it is bad info. Not to say that the FO pay is not low. It is. But it is not 20k a year, not even on first year, not even on reserve. It can go anywhere from $35k to $50k/year depending on when you get off reserve, and weather you are willing to (or able to i.e. due to commuting) work extra. Plus per diem. My highest take home pay was over $4200, incl per diem, as a junior line holder with working 2 extra days and still had 14 days off. This was very doable living in base. Unfortunately did not last at all as I was kicked out with the rest of us fairly soon. While it is nothing to brag about, it is more than 20k and there are legacies that pay less for 1st year.

This place isn't going to shut down-it's called negotiations. Everybody needs to grow a pair and realize that. So many whiney bi***es around this place.

Not whiny, just realistic. Winning the war is more important than winning a battle. Contract re-negotiation is just a skirmish in the contract battle which consists of a whole series of amendable dates and openers. The "war" is protecting your right to negotiate when those amendable dates come around and protecting the rights you win during negotiations.

Your career is a marathon, not a sprint and success is measured at the end of your thirty odd years in the cockpit, not every four years.

If you think about it, it's "whiny" to demand instant gratification.

Good post. NK mid seniority (5 or 6 year) FO $65/hour. The guarantee is 72 hour and the lines usually average closer to 78 hours. If a Spirit FO of that seniority, btw most are at that seniority, flies an average line, he will make $60 large per year. That's with no OT.

DAL second year first officer pay - $77/hour
third year - $90
fifth year - $95

You get the idea. I think Delta's pay rates are pathetic. Actually, I think every single airline has pathetic pay rates other than UPS and FedEx. This industry is already in the sh!tter. How much worse can it get?

You checked the pay rates for Eastern lately?

You checked the pay rates for Eastern lately?

You must be in management! You do not share the views of most of us! We will shut it down if need be, we make a pathetic income, the ALPA strike fund of $1400 a month is just as good for me, plus I will go get a part time job while waiting. Most of us will vote to strike, I am guessing we get an 85%+ yes vote!

Definetly more. I've yet to run into anyone that is even wavering. YEEEEEEES!

I still can't seem to find those 8 guys (or 3 guys with 8 screen names) with so much dissention towards the Union that run the Spirit bitch board. I don't understand why they are trying to undermine the efforts to try and get us a better contract. Sometimes you have to suck up your bruised ego and work for something better!

That board makes me want to puke. Mostly completely useless info.

All of you mad junior boys are just "whackin yourself off". The Spirit group will not strike until the MAJORITY decides that the current situation is unbearable.

All of you are pissd because you expected to upgrade in 18 months and you left the left seat of an RJ to go to something bigger. The cyclical airline business has you stuck in a bad place during down times. Suck it up like everyone else in this business who had found themselves in your position and hang on. It will get better, but you've got to wait until the cycle hits an upswing.

The older members of this profession in your group, having suffered through many more cycles than yourselves, will not walk until they know they can do better. At the present time, they can NOT.

My membership to the board mysteriously went away (couldn't log on anymore) when I stated my concern over a union rep. (hotel comm. chair.....HT.....ie "repo man") trashing his fellow MEC. He blew a gasket, and after I could'nt log on anymore. Cant be pro-MEC on that board. I log on now under a friends name yet mind my myself (dont want to get him kicked off)! My guess is the Goldman is the twisted voice of a few of those posters in question. I dont know what their game is?! I dont see what they have to gain with their pro-managment stance. It'd be nice if someone would start a "normal board".

I haven't heard of anyone from rjet making a big commotion at Spirit...why would they care who you are?

I guess you must not be a part of Operation Monkeywrench? I guess none of us are, but I do like saying the word! By the way, I have been through some ups and downs in the industry, Rjet was only a year of my life due to another furlough on a "big" plane, had to pay the bills. I would like to restate my opinion that we will have greater than 85% yes to strike vote!

Over at RAH we had a board with real names, and they still have it. It worked well and I am sure it still does. But it was not run by Teamsters. Probably a good thing. I have approached our MEC about creating a board like that but they have quoted some legal issues and I doubt it will happen. It seems the only way to do it is if it is done privately.
