I guess the Southwest pilots are giving up a good portion of their scope clause. Buddy of mine said the following companies were in the running to provide 70 to 86-seat feed for SWA:

Pinnacle
Skywest
Republic/Shuttle America

Not in the running:
Mesa
ho-jet.

Deal to be inked in 2009. Possibilities include flying in Texas and the Pac Northwest. Possible new cities include Des Moines, Charlotte, Charleston, Savannah.

Merry Christmas to the lucky winner. How are the Southwest guys going to take seeing that first RJ flown by someone else? Strange new world we live in.

Who is this "buddy of yours"? Negotiations are ongoing and I would expect to not hear anything definitive from your "buddy" for some time. Thanks for throwing darts, though.

If we do get smaller airframes, I hope they are Jetstreams or ATRs. That would be cool......fingers crossed.

It's just that time of the season when some people do a little WISHFUL Thinking. Our union has done a pretty job of keeping us up today on the contract talks. To date I have not heard anything about RJ's..........and don't expect to. But is still ok to believe in Santa.

If that happens Code Share Kelly's tenure will be shorter than Jim Parker's:uzi:

You are on..........We might need a bigger aircraft to carry my fata$$ after all that Nathan's.

....the ATR can haul your fatta$$ and more.....

Are you the same Pinnacle guy that told me you fly the "9"? When I said that I didn't know that Pinnacle had DC-9s you said you meant the CRJ900.
If it is you, again my congrats on moving on up to the heavy iron. If Pinnacle gets the CRJ1000 to fly for SWA then you can say you fly the "10".....awesome dude!

I've heard it, and that this was the section of the TA's codeshare portion of the Section 6 that GK wanted to renegotiate.

It's not section 6, it's section 1. And it wasn't about RJ's. It was about selling a code share ticket that didn't fly a leg on a SWA airplane. ie, he wants to sell a ticket from Canada to Mexico on a WestJet to Volaris connection.

So which is worse?.....Selling a SWA ticket on a WestJet or Mexican carrier flying 737s...or a connection on a regional out of Des Moines or Pasco?

I'd say the WestJet deal is ok, they're a known product, and we're working closely with them on other (non code share) projects. I think the quality is up to SWA standards.

I don't think we can say the same about a 2 year old Mexican start up (flying Airbuses btw, not 737's) or an RJ provider.

And now that the company has reopend section 1, I'd be very, VERY surprised if the SWA pilots agree to any RJs at all, unless we do the flying.

So it's OK to outsource flying to non-SWA pilots out of YVC and YYZ....but not DSM or other cities that can't be supported with a SWA 737....Where's the logic there? Many of the WestJet cities are large enough to support SWA 737s....The cities that would be supported by RJs aren't big enough to support SWA 737s.....I don't see the logic....

None of it's okay, really. It isn't only the matter of brand degradation, but the freedom that it gives the company to renegotiate outside of the SWA seniority list. What do we do once the genie is out of the bottle? You can't put it back. Didn't Mullin tell the DAL guys that a deal's a deal?

You cannot award one codeshare and then say another one is bad. They are either all good or all bad......right?

So Joe, you pickin on the fat kid, now?

....from one Nathan's loving fat kid to another...you betcha....

Just 50-seaters. I hope the SWA pilots do not cave on scope, but from what I am hearing it is already a done deal. Didn't the SW union send something out about allowing RJ Codeshare?

Say it ain't so. I thought this road was paved already. Don't do it SWA.

Yeah, this rumor was going around at Expressjet about 2 - 3 years ago. Rumor was they wanted us to code share because of our Mexico certificate. I call Bulls#1t.

Be careful, that is the same logic that got the legacies in trouble in the 90s.

Loopholes will be found. As soon as the cat is out of the bag, all bets are off.

Okay, I'll bite a bit on this one. I heard that SWA is in negotiations to buy (merge/takeover/whatever) SkyWest. That way, the RJs are on the SWA property and flown by SWA pilots.

I know, it sounds rediculous, but I'm sure that's the only way SWA will get any RJs doing the intra-Texas routes.

Or, I should say, that's the only way they should have RJs doing SWA flying.

Who knows? We've got nearly a Bil in the bank...that's probably attractive to someone. Whatever.

SWA pilots have zero codeshare protection thanks to Gary Kelly going back on his promise to abide by the TA. They want the section reopened, so now NO protection exists. They can do what they want when they want. Here comes the RJ and here comes all the codeshare outsourcing to third world countries.

I think the quality is up to SWA standards.

What part? The passing out peanuts part, lame FA pa's, or the cattle car boarding process? What do they need to work on?

I worked for Chicago Express from 2001-05.
When ATA sold 93% of it's assets to SWA, Chicago Express VP of Ops and President were trying to sell us to SWA, so we could continue to feed someone at MDW.
We had 17 Saab340's (with 32 seats) and brought over 125,000 pax to MDW per month.
SWA said to our President said "We're SWA, we feed ourselves."...which you can't disagree with.
I highly doubt SWA has changed their mind and decided to reach out to a regional carrier.
