Just saw tail end of report. I believe it was Newark. I think its funny how they say they exited the runway. The didn't run off the runway.

from SWA Facebook

STATEMENT ON FLIGHT 4695:

This morning, Flight #4695 leaving Islip for Tampa exited the taxiway during taxi from the gate. The aircraft had 129 Customers on board, and there were no reported injuries. The Customers deplaned the aircraft and were bussed back to the terminal where a replacement aircraft will take them to their original destination. Maintenance crews are working to move the aircraft and evaluate it for any damage.

My only point was that the way it was worded by southwest was pretty funny. It can and will happen to every airline. It just seems to happen with Southwest more than others.

Any aviation insurance actuary could give us the numbers on how often this will occur. It can and will happen to every airline. Hell, Air Force One put one in the tulips several years ago.

All the best to the SWA crew as they deal with the situation.

Cannot believe........................................the Genitals hasn't chimed in yet.

She's over on the regional board this week, building his lead in postings and sharing his wisdom of the current state of the airline industry. Oh and further feeding her ego.

And once again, without actually knowing diddly-dick, a moron leads a piece and titles a thread about running off a "runway," to make it sound more ominous, like it's closer to a "plane crash," and not to mention attention-getting.

It was ISP, not EWR, and the plane apparently got off a taxiway in the winter weather.

But hey, MSMB, look at the bright side: you may not know crap about actual airline operations (like the fact there's a pretty significant difference between a runway and a taxiway), but you've shown yourself well-qualified to be an "airline expert" on the evening news. Good luck with that.

You Southwest guys need to SLOW down

Seriously. I watched a SWA guy in Oakland almost enter a power slide turning from victor to tango over the summer. I was cleared to taxi out on bravo ahead of them and I didn't move because i thought they were going to lose it for sure at that speed. They made it but the items in the overhead bins shifted for sure.

Cheers,
Scott

Easy there bubba. If you take a deep breath and go back and read my original post, I said "I believe" and that I only saw the tail end of the report. The reporter did say runway. I just got the EWR part wrong. The reporter got the location at the airport wrong. I guess if you end up in the grass, you would assume it was the runway.
I don't think "exiting the runway" is closer to describing a plane crash. Now if I had said that southwest flew off the runway at a high rate of speed, that would have been ominous! At the end of the day, you really don't need to get that defensive. It could happen to anybody.
