737-200 Basic = JT8-7 (14K thrust) --probably none left in U.S.

737-200 Advanced = JT8-9 (14.5K) or JT8-17 (16K).

The original Frontier had an all 737-200 Advanced fleet. The Basic models were a struggle in DEN, so they really needed the Advanced model. The -17 Advanced model was a nice performer. There may have been -15 engines out there too, but I am not sure who had them. The Basic models were manufactured mostly in the late '60s. The Advanced from the mid 70s to early 80s.

I think you read me wrong. When I say there is no such thing as a -200 advanced it was a play on words. Kinda like that is no such thing as a B-727 Advanced. It's all 1950's technology. There is nothing advanced about it.

So there is more thrust per engine. I flew an MD-80 with a JT-8 that produced 21,000 lbs of thrust yet they didn't call it the MD-83 advanced.

See what I mean?

C'mon Big Slick, you need to quit yanking everyone's chain without full disclosure....

BIG SLICK= EX SWA,

I know a lot of guys that went to the majors and came back. Probably the biggest mistake the AF made was letting them back in. All the guys were p/o'ed at life in general and not very grateful to be back in the service. Now it was just a job and not a calling to fly mil jets.

I do chuckle (but only in my sleep) when I recall how they put down SWA and told me I was crazy for making them my 1st choice.

I can see why "big" feels so bad. He is not out flying for a cool airline he is stuck flying tweets which any 2nd Lt. can do right out of UPT. It's a serious waste of his talent.

WOW, boy did he F it up big time!!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

That is what I was thinking......

Whoa....

I wasn't trying to paint anyone as right or wrong. But the post that started the thread, IMHO, needed some background info.

Many folks left SWA for what were thought to be greener pastures. AA, DAL and others had sweet deals like FedEx still has. Living in domicile, sitting reserve and working maybe 8 days a month.

But those days are over. In fact, many blame the demise of them on SWA so I don't feel happy or smug about it.

Just think....

A few years in the future we may have some young whipper snappers pointing out how a chap 11 SWA had such huge pilot salaries compared to the other airlines they were bound to fall on their face.

swa and huge salaries....WHHHAAAAATTT?????

Do you walk around the locker room accusing other dudes of staring at your package?

Do you own a swedish Peanut enlarger?

Yes, Capt Mark, we all know how much you FedEx dudes are pulling down. You are so smart, virile, and personally powerful.

FlyBoeingJets, You have always seemed like a nice guy.

I have to make fun of Southwest at least a little. I didn't say anything all that bad. You guys should see all the bad stuff I've also written about American on here.

At least the senior guys at SWAPA pretend to care about the junior guys. The senior guys at APA seem to only care about getting their A fund in a lump sum. At least that's how it seems from my perspective.

You Southwest guys are a little too sensitive sometimes.(SWA/FO) Ya'll are the only one's making money right now, so enjoy your time on top. In another five years, you'll be battling Jetblue, Airtran, Spirit, Virgin America, Ryan Air and the re-structured legacies.

Anyhow, if you are still looking for an airline job, I thought you all might like to know that SWA was having an open house. I know that six years ago I would have gone to that open house. Even though I was poking fun, I did post some good information for SWA hopefuls.

As far as quitting SWA, I have no regrets. Give the particulars of my situation, Southwest was not the place for me. Maybe it will be the right place for you, that is for you to figure out. Best of luck.

I probably helped several folks get hired by SWA by posting the open house info. Ya'll should be thanking me. Especially those who get hired because of this post.

In short, lighten up Francise! Gee Wiz.

just having fun....big slick says it best..lighten up...just busting my boy swa/fo's stones....but i did send the enlarger to d'angelo...

O.K. I'll try to lighten up. It's not easy.

And that enlarger isn't mine. It's not my bag baby.

Tell me more about this. Are they putting out any surveys to figure if the membership wants this or are they using their "executive" authority to negotiate it for the "welfare" of the membership?

You need to keep an eye on the senior dudes.....

.....any 2nd Lt can fly a tanker right out of pilot training too!!!

Being less than four months away from rejection, I don't yet feel enough love to attend this event. When I get closer to the reapply date, I may feel a little more like it. Does anyone know if this open house will become a regular event?

Chase? Bueller? anyone?

enigma,

Don't know...but SWA has had roadshows before I believe but this is the first one of this nature I recall....regardless of how previous interview experiences went, I would highly encourage anyone interested to RSVP on the Southwest.com website and come visit with the great folks in the PD....you have nothing to lose & everything to gain. I completely understand your thoughts about not attending but if you gain one more SWA experience that in your gray matter it is hard to argue how that couldn't help....I understand completely if you can't come or wish not too....good luck & keep the faith!!!

Malter1 you got that right, but what is your point? The tanker is a veteran warbird contributing to the defense of America. the tweet is an obsolete toy living on life support.

I unsuccesfully interviewed Dec' 12th but I will be at the open house. I look forward to further demonstrating that I am a good fit for Southwest.

Enigma I am suprised. I expected to see you in Dallas on the 10th.

Like the guy said a few post up "4th time in 6 years". I hope it does not come to that but if thats what it takes then so be it.

I've got 19 years left.

Show me the LUV...

Roger that Dart....19 years of LUV is way better than 19 years of hell somewhere else.

I just wish I could have gotten on at 28 like my buddy did, I'll be his "switch bitch" despite him being 10-years my junior in the age department. Wait, probably not...he'll be enjoying holidays off with his wife and kids while I'm in the middle of a 4-day! (it's all good, I'll wear my 3-sripes with pride...maybe I'll carry my 4-stripes from my current job in my pocket for good luck)

Thanks lawndart, but I cancelled a planned family vacation to interview this last winter, and I'm not going to cancel the time I've planned for this summer. Unfortunately, the tenth happens to fall right in the middle of our next planned trip.

Besides, I don't need to know any more about getting hired by SWA that I don't already know. Knowing and doing are two seperate functions. I know the interview, God knows I've done it enough, and they don't like those who "prep"' so exactly where does that leave someone like me? If I didn't impress them in the one-on-ones I've done, I doubt that I'll impress them in a group setting. But I do feel honored that you would expect me to be there.
