I agree with you completely -
The percentage should be the same - BUT then the rich people will pay most of the taxes. Not the most %, but the most tax DOLLARS. Apparently, some people think that it should not be this way.. "and that is, of course, what this is all about" <in agent smith voice>:p
The way I see it, as long as I pay a certain percentage, I will pay a lot less than my share now, but when I get that well paying flying job in the future, I'll pay more than my share. It would be unfair of me to start complaining about all the taxes I pay once I am rich, after having paid a lot less when I was "paying dues". That is why I think the % system works well.

???????????????????????????????????????

The "rich" do pay most of the taxes. It doesn't matter whether you look at total dollars, or at percentages, the top taxpayers pay the vast majority of the tax bill.

What sort of idiot are you? Do you really freaking believe that everyone in the top 10% of earners was "born into it"... F you!!

Let's take a little known person as an example.. Collin Powell.. Born to a poor family, in a time when there were certainly fewer blacks moving up than now. He seems to have done pretty well for himself.. Gee, what's his excuse... It couldn't have been HARD WORK or anything like that was it?!

All U.S. citizens have the chance to make something of themselves. If YOU made choices that didn't lead to your little "perfect world" top 10% wage earner, then tough sh!t! You aren't owed anything but a chance and that comes with the responsibility to do something with it..

In the past 50+ years, more people have MADE their wealth than were born into it. Especially in the last 20 or so years.

jesus... people like this are going to destroy America...

You're leaving out the fact that the top 1% owns 50% of the wealth in this country, and the top 10% owns 90%. Why shouldn't they be taxed more, they certainly won't feel it as much as the rest of us?

And you have to ask how they got to be in the top percentile. Usually they had the good sense to be born into it, or at least into the environment that would propel them into it (right schools, family connections.)

The rich have been getting far richer than the rest of us over the past thirty years. Is that a good thing? History shows it isn't.

And don't fool yourself, there is not a single commercial pilot in this country in the top 1%

In our country, we are born with an equal oportunity. What happens after that is not the responsibility of government, but the responsibility of each individual and their family, making the very most of their opportunities, abiding by our laws and living a moral life.

Certainly people like Colin Powell are good examples, but also people like Walter Williams, who grew up poor in North Philadelphia.

The problem, as I see it, is too many people confuse the idea of equal opportunity with equal outcome, which is a purely socialist concept.

Always strive to do your best, and to be the best person you can be. It is a lifelong process, and it is always in play. Only a fool expects the government to take on his battles for him, making up for a lack of ability or will.

It's all up to you.

Well said TB !! And much more rational / polite than my method. Personally I am just fed up with people acting like they "deserve" something and that those of us who have done well somehow were "given something" unfair, or born into it. I have given up trying to be nice to that type of person as they are a direct threat to the fundamental core of our great country.

To make it worse, that poster, "Goggles whatever", claims to be typed in a couple of birds and have 6000+ hours. This is clearly not the resume of someone doomed to live in poverty the rest of his/her life. It is a complete INSULT to people like Walter E. Williams and anyone else who was born into abject poverty and pulled themselves out of it. Believe it or not, some people have families and LOTS of happiness at $35k per year. It is all about your own expectations about life. If you want a good spouse, kids, etc, it doesn't cost > $100K/year. You may not get that new plasma TV (I don't have one), etc... But nothing is stopping you from enjoying your spouse, kids, life at $35K /yr...

So I will say it again, Googles.. YOU and YOUR ILK are an evil scurge on our society. YOU and YOUR ILK spend more time on class warfare and envy then it takes to better yourself, and those around you. I would reach out and help ANYONE who was trying to help themselves, but I would let you fall into the pit of homelessness because you somehow think you "deserve" better and I don't deserve what I have built for myself, my family, and my friends.

Perhaps you need to turn in your US passport (assuming you have one) and move to a socialist country where you will be happy. Don't screw this up for the rest of us!

That's Pisano

That's Pisano, which may be dialect for 'paesano' or countryman in Italian.

It connotes partnership and camaraderie.

Ciao.
