Lear, you realize the article states the leases go out to 2024 right? Hardly anything to worry about this decade. Please realize the last thing Gary wants is to get you over here or furlough you early, then have you come back pissed, he knows thats bad for business.

If I were an AT pilot, I would like just that in writing. Maybe a no furlough clause with force mejeur protections. My previous airline didn't have that for us. That would put the AT guys at ease.

Heard it said really well today- if you guys want to treat GK with all the suspicion of just any standard airline exec, at some point he might just cut his losses and treat you like any old airline employee.

What's he on record as saying- he wants us to be proud of how we handled this acquisition and how we treated each other during it.

He can't tell us everything- but I'm learning he says what he means.

Besides- how does voting no help out the 717 situation.

Blah Blah Blah .... You do realize that nobody at AirTran believes the schtick anymore ?

It's just lipservice. Literally.

The first ones start going away in 2017 - 6 years, through the last one going away in 2024.

The issue in SL9 is that the pilots aren't brought onto SWAPA's CBA and represented by SWAPA until they come through Dallas for training. If the 717's are kept on the AAI side another 3-4 years past the originally-planned 30-month integration timeline, we start retiring 717's while pilots are operating them on the AirTran side. They get furloughed off the AirTran side. They have no recall rights to SWAPA because they were never on SWAPA's CBA per Side Letter 9.

Again, I DO NOT THINK GK HAS ANY INTENTION OF DOING THAT. However, bring another 9/11 or a Middle East war that threatens the entire region and oil spins to $200+ a Brl, then events beyond anyone's control could result in some hard decisions being made.

Simply put, I don't think it's too much to ask to change the clause in SL9 to say "If the 30-month Complete Operational Integration timeline is extended by agreement, all remaining AirTran pilots who have not completed transition training to Southwest will immediately become represented by SWAPA and covered by SWAPA's CBA in its entirety." Boom. Single seniority list, worries of being left behind gone, equals much easier to take the rest of the issues, growth, loss of bidding power, uncertain basing, all the other stuff that's already there and will be there no matter which route we take, but it's livable risk.

We analyze risk for a living and make the best choices we can. Some risks are unavoidable, some can be eliminated or at least minimized. That's what the "fixes" we are seeking for the 4-party agreement are. Fix the big items that could end up in unemployment for months or years, and we'll risk the smaller stuff. I don't think many of you, being in our position, not under the umbrella of "family luv" yet, would want to take these risks if there was a way to negotiate their elimination without hurting any party, would you?

I have faith they'll get it done.

Lear,

You missed your calling. You should've been a lawyer. I can tell you with a high degree of certainty... SWA is not a good fit for you. I hope you find what you're looking for someday.

Hold on a second . . . .

Fly-Diver, you guys frequently ask Lear for his opinion on this stuff. When he (politely and articulately) presents some specific items he has concerns with, he's suddenly a "bad guy" and you want to "play HR" with him?

Low...... And lame.

People come here for the exchange of opinions. It would get pretty boring around here without it. We could all just slap each other on the backs and be done before breakfast. . . . . Hmmmm, maybe not such a bad idea. ;)

There seems to be a SWA corporate culture on here that if you say anything they don't want to hear, they attack. My sense is they don't want to hear anything they don't like. I hope their flight crews don't run a cockpit like that.

And the Corndogs CERTAINLY don't want the AT guys to protect themselves.....

I would think the SWA cockpits have gotten a bit more quiet lately, not as much "giddiness."

x2.

Lear has been through the ringer the last few years so give him a break. I know it's hard for our future co-workers to understand, but considering the way management has used our contract the last 5 years as a doormat we just want to be safe. It's nothing personal against SWA, we know (SLI issues aside) what a blessing this combination could be for our careers. It is because we know this that we want to make sure some of us don't get left behind. I'm sure once we feel the LUV it will be a whole different story and the stink of the EAL management style will be gone forever.
