Ok. This makes no sense whatsoever.

ALPA sucks for regionals but a regional should join it.

Careful there. You may be accused of a management loving scumball just because you question the usefulness of a union. The only thing union dues are good for is a tax writeoff. Thats the only use my dues have had my entire career. When I think back of all the money ive put in and how little ive got out of it it almost brings me to insanity. Luckily I try not to think about it too much. If you get ALPA they will be glad to take your money but if you ever want them to stop representing you, well good luck on that one!! They are like foot odor. You can mask the problem with spray but it never totally goes away.

In house unions don't work at the regional level. Regionals have too few pilots, and the pilots don't make anywhere near enough money to fund the union unless dues are astronomical (probably greater than 5%). The truth is, regional carriers within ALPA receive back far more money than they pay in. They are subsidized by the larger and richer mainline pilot groups. They are the ones who pay more than they get back.

Keep in mind that the APA, SWAPA, FAPA, NPA, etc... all pay ALPA very large sums of money for services such as Economics & Financial Analysis, negotiations training, accident investigation, etc... An in house union at the regional level wouldn't have the resources available to pay ALPA for these services. That's why all regionals within ALPA end up getting more money back than they pay in.

Yes and NO..What side do you think they are on when scope is talked about?ANSWER: MAJORS ALPA will never be a help to the regional level. I know his from first hand knowlegde. I was told by our Lawyer that you should just be happy you have a job. Sure is a lot of help for the money...But without a union you guys are still in the same boat. So what do ya do....
