This must not include ASA's performance. "SkyWest Airlines was named the Number One On-Time Mainland Airline in the United States by the Department of Transportation for 2005, 2004 and 2003, years in which they carried more than 40 million passengers combined. System-wide, SkyWest Airlines operates 180 Bombardier Canadair Regional Jets and was the first airline to order the CRJ in 1989. The CRJ-700 has a range of 1,685 nautical miles, a ceiling of 41,000 feet and a normal cruising speed of 515 miles per hour."

They better be on time, look at where they predominately fly to a from.

It's a lame ranking....who cares...the people (Delta and United) who pay our bills don't care...and I'm at skywest...

mookie

They DO care!!!

and so should you, Mookie!

United and Delta do care..... There are very nice bonuses from United and Delta for ontime performance. The better the performance, the bigger the bonus....This equals a bigger bonus for SkyWest employees......

If they do care, homer, then why do they keep assigning new flying to other carriers who bring up the bottom of the list? I hope they DO care in the future, and believe me I hustle like the next guy, but in this day and age...if people could pay $20 less, and count on being 20-30 mins late...they will. sad fact of our society. When i first got here, it was "quality quality quality...." now it's "costs costs costs...quality... but must maintain costs." that is why we have 25 minute scheduled turns in ORD on the 70 with a crew/plane swap. how on earth can we accomplish that and still maintain quality???

What I'm going to say now with probably give Genral lee a hard-on, BUT...I can't believe the difference that ORD has made now that mainline is running the ramp. I have been doing ORD the last two months, and have actually seen 10-15 of the SAME guys on the ramp everytime I go there. wanna know why??? they pay them what they are worth. On the flipside, DEN, where almost every time i've been there the guy pushing me says "sorry, dude, this is only the second time i've pushed an RJ." Mainline does a better job, period..

We've become a commodity.
it sux, but it's the new reality.

Mookie,

I hear ya. I have seen the same thing from this end.

But i do know United and Delta make a big deal about it. I hear confrence calls every morning with U and Delta where the first thng brought up is ontime performance thoughout the entire system, all express carriers and mainline. Bonuses are made on these numbers.

I do agree with your statement about quality though....seems noone cares anymore.

If it matters so much maybe you guys could quit giving us swaps that make us late so often?!!!!

What gets me is that whenever I'm on one of these STAR flights for United, I get way better treatment than a normal flight. It shouldn't make a difference if it's a STAR flight or not. But apprantly, whenever it's a STAR flight, the CS agent always comes up and asks, do you need anything? do you need anything? do you need anything? I think it's a bunch of BS. Shouldn't I get the same treatment regardless???

Mookie,

Mainline does a better job period? Your experience is much different than mine. ORD ground handling has gotten a lot better, but I'll take LAX ground handling by SkyWest in a heart beat over any UAL run station. ORD or otherwise. Maybe Denver sucks--I hardly ever go there-- but ORD is really pretty pathetic and so are most of the UAL run outstations.

AWAC rampers and CSR's I spoke to before the transition refused to even apply at UAL because they actually paid less than AWAC. So I doubt the hourly wage was what caused the improved performance. More likely a little better organization. I saw more AWAC ground managers with clipboards doing absolutely nothing than I saw rampers half the time.

Most of the UAL guys I've talked to are 5-10 year employees so I'm sure they are on a higher scale and have vastly more experience with ramp ops...so yeah, I think they are better. AWAC ramp was about 90% per month turnover during the wintertime in ord.

Yes, LAX rocks, as well as our SFO guys, but this humble rj ca barely ever gets to the west coast anymore on trips so my basis of comparison is out of whack.

ORD,SFO,LAX,DEN,SLC... What's your point? No delays in these citie's?

Never been to any of them, but it is hard to believe anyone can match the breathtaking incompetance and apathy displayed on the ramp at ATL C & D.

ACARs in every jet, but maybe 2-3, and AFIS (baby acars) in the EMB. The triggers were changed a few years ago to allow an ontime push, but that's about it.

Indianboy7....no doubt, but I sure do love those 5:15 a.m. show times in the east. makes me feel like a "real" pilot.:D

SKW DEN station is a revolving door. i worked there for 53 weeks and my seniority went from 220 to 85 in that time. i still have some friends who work there and mgmt say they're trying to add about 100 people before july. don't count on many of those folks staying long, but things might get slightly better for a short period of time.

Try the northeast! I bet SKYW couldn't handle a month in Philly!

It was only a matter of time until, "do they have ACARS?" and "try the northeast" came up. I almost posted it myself :D

P.S. Whine all you want about ORD, the penality box rocks to the tune of 3-4 hrs a month, flight pay, not that wimpy per-diem.

Ya, i'll give you that, but whining about how the weather is TOO good is MUCH MUCH MUCH better than bitching about cold, snow and fallin on your ass cuz you slipped on some glycol........

p.s. can't remember where i saw it, but I'll use it shamelessly here.....I'd much rather screw my way around than suck and blow my way through life... :D

Yeah it matters. Unfortunately the turn times in the hubs getting
cut and losing gates in SFO doesn't translate into fewer airplanes
needing to be into maint at night. United thinks we can operate
the same number of flights with fewer airplanes by cutting turn
times. We've seen what a goat rope that is in SFO and LAX.
LAX is going to "de-peak" more in a month or two and DEN is
going to that in May. Trust me, we don't like it anymore than
you do because it ties our hands a lot of time to untangle things
on a bad day.

The alternative to swapping is to ferry airplanes to a base at
the end of your shift or scheduling crews to get their airplanes
at or after departure time and building delays into the schedule.
