Skywest losses IAH COEX flying

1 year at IAH, from first day..about 50% would look at you, the other 50% looked away...Shame.
One great thing that happened, is that every FO that we took in from Xjet turned out high quality from day one, till most went back even to the very last second of the very last flight! Kudos!

50% of the guys you were looking at to say hello, were guys that were flying those routes in the "white birds" that you guys are flying. Think about it, do you really think they would be happy to see you?

I have never been at a place that has such a bad ramp service and communications in the industry. We bust our butt down here and people down here just don't care. I get tired of reading the board blasting just how bad we are. Unless you worked somewhere that runs a proficient carrier please keep to yourself. Another thing I quite don't understand is when I walk down the terminal and pilots can't even say hello. Wake up and smell the roses.

You ought to be thankful that you even have a job. I tried for two years and I was alway told that I was overqualified. Think next time.


I'm sure things will be much better in SLC.
 
Goodbye IAH

By the time we are out of IAH I will have spent 1 year in Houston. It was a great base, with great people who liked working with each other. I will definitely miss it. With regard to the ramp, well, there were good days and bad days. I'll never forget Xmas eve 04 with snow in IAH and the deicing truck just driving up and down the hardstand stopping to deice when you flashed your lights at him, no headset to communicate and kind of looked at you weird when you climbed out of the airplane to get the necessary info. All well I've lived in Houston my whole life and that was only the second time I can remember it snowing. The white birds, oh, the white birds. The desert can have those back, they'll make good Coke cans someday, maybe. With re: to the XJT guys, yeah it was about 50/50 but i can't honestly say that I haven't walked with a blank stare past a couple of their crews either, so, whatever. All that mattered is that as far as i know each side was helpful with the jumpseat. I will miss IAH. I'm sure all the SKYW people will make it through okay.

Oh, one more thing to the XJT guys.....it still looks like an "RJ" to me. ;)

Does anyone know what'll happen to those "white birds" that SkyWest flies in IAH? Will they go back to the desert or will SkyWest make them silver? Who owns those plane anyway?
 
Prop (CW right?)

Skywest is leasing those white ones. My guess is that they will go somewhere besides SKW. The silver ones apparently are up for debate. Our mx guys want to use them as spares since our current ones (at least in SLC) are becoming mx pigs.
 
I flew down in IAH a few times to do aircraft repos. The crews were great (both SKYW & XJT), but the ground handling by CO sucked!! I waited almost an hour for some ramp agents to move a whopping 5 sand bags over to another airplane. I would ask them, and they acted like I was speaking a foriegn language. Finally, I just did it myself. I'm sure there was some union guy bitching me out for actually working, but oh well. I remember when I worked for Ford Motor and we weren't allowed to move our own desks because the UAW would get pissed. We'd place a work order in with them. Three weeks later four guys (two working & two "observing") would come in and move the desk ten feet. I don't know what the right answer is for the state of our industry. Unions suck, corporations such, and psuedo-unions suck. Oh and....

Its funny you X-jet kids think you are entitled to fly your RJs from IAH to STL, but SkyWest is stealing your flying by using a turboprop from IAH to Victoria, TX.
 
I don't see what's so special about flying to and from St. Louis.

IAH to VCT use to be flown by our crews in our own turboprops. CO replaced both of those with Skywest. Were either aircraft or crews replaced by XJT on any Skywest route? See the difference?

Actually, no worries there....CO rampers are not unionized employees.

I admit that I have frustration when I fly in and out of IAH as well. Lately I have been pleasantly surprised by how well the ground staff is doing. What I have a problem with is ramp frequency congestion on the south side of the airport. Prop guys should be glad you don't deal with that. There are just a huge number of flights operating in IAH and the congestion will just get worse.

There needs to be a third ramp control frequency down in IAH. One for the North, one for the CAL South, and one for Express South. No one can get a word in edgewise to push.

Do you think you are ENTITLED to fly that route? REMEMBER, YOU ARE A SUBCONTACTOR FOR CO, HIRED TO DO A JOB FOR CO. CO can hire WHOMEVER they want to fly wherever they want. If COEX was its OWN airline, i'd say u got sumthin, but its not and u dont. live with it.

As I said before, no one has a hard one over flying the ERJ (obviously). The discussion is specific to route and company.

As for saying hello as we passed; is this high-school? Who gives a sh*t. Unless I know or have flown with you, I'm not saying hello. You may be an idiot. I can't get caught waving to an idiot in public.

You're right, all those mainline guys need to stop complaining about us flying from DEN-CLE, IAH-ATL, etc.. since CO can hire WHOMEVER they want to fly wherever they want. :rolleyes:

Kids? Our average age is over 30....more like 34.

I was one of the 120 captains displaced to the right seat of the 145 when we dumped our 120's...only to see the very same planes end up back in IAH being flown by Skywest pilots. I hold no ill will or grudge. We are just pilots...we go to work and do our job and go home. The playground fights are better left there...on the playground.

No where did I read any XJT pilot speak of "entitlement" though....care to elaborate?

a) CAL rampers are not unionized...nor are their res agents.

b) If you injured yourself moving those sandbags and got disciplined for putting yourself out of work doing a job beyond the scope of your normal duties, who would go to bat for you?

c) Yes, IAH rampers can be notoriously slow...but has a lot to do with staffing (or lack thereof) due to CAL's efforts to cut costs.

Tell me you are kidding me that your management would discipline you for doing work above and beyond what is expected of you.
