The only problem with the corporate america and the regional airline comparison is that there is something called lateral career progression, which is THE single source of bargaining power an individual employee has when making such requests for increase in pay. In the airline business, pilots go to the end of the line (and take the hefty paycut) when they want to "laterally move". Management knows this, which is why pilots have no out.
That said, I agree with boiler that to suggest to simply STFU is a little callous considering there is no other widely available way of building valuable flight time for a major job than the regionals (assuming you're not connected enough to fly your uncle's citation or whatever for sh$ts and giggles..you know who y'all are) for the masses.
I know many people who are kept at bay by the first year pay at regionals and I for one would not like to go back to "college" and essentially borrow money so I can survive for a year while I work...talk about de facto paying to be able to work.
