I tried to get off time without pay in both July and now in Aug and have been told no we are not offering it in ORD both times...

By the way, SKyWest has cancelled classes based on hotel issues before. The August show is an outdoor expo that eats up most of the rooms in the city.

Hows that kool-aid? Time off without pay is what most consider a furlough. Let me guess, you get to keep your travel benefits so it is not a furlough. And when the airlines start cutting back the schedules your travel benefits will be worthless.
I am glad to be done with the regionals, some of you guys are clueless.

Maybe just a tad different.....TOWOP is strickly optional and you get to keep you benifits, even if dropping to zero hours.....and its day by day, not year by year. almost the same though..

The hotel thing is legit...I got an email telling us if we commute in for Sim in August we may have a hard time finding a hotel room...they wanted to do a noon session for all the SLC commuters so they won't have problems....

Ever been furloughed?

I'll tell you how time off without pay differs from furlough from my perspective. I lost my job when Aloha went under.

You keep your medical/dental coverage as opposed to being self-insured.

You keep your travel benefits.

You are still considered employed as far as other employers are concerned - easier to find other jobs when you are employed.

You have a job to go back to.
 
Ok, i guess time off without pay is much different then a furlough. No I have never been furloughed, nor do I want to be. I am not bashing the OO guys, I wish everyone the best. You working now freight? If you have ever consider becoming an ex-patriot and doing some interesting flying out of the UAE let me know.
 
Well, it could be hotel issues, and it could be something else. But this much I know: SLC EMB FO is SOLID red arrows, and I think we have exactly three (3) reserves for July on the FO side. That means that I have a 90 hour line awarded with no possibility of ever dropping anything. You guys do the math.

I'm used to it by now--I was awarded a 100 hour line, unbid for, back in Feb with solid red arrows and no possibility of dropping. I was commuting to FAT at the time, and between that and the Ag convention, I didn't make it home for about three weeks. My point is that the class probably was cancelled due to hotel issues and not something else.

I guess I am trustng when it comes to my friends, strange. But those who don't trust others are the ones who know they can't be trusted. Besides, it doesn't matter too much to me, it's only "flight info".

Though it is good to hear from you again andy, I do hope everything is going well.

Furloughs and perhaps base reductions/closures are pretty close. They are waiting on fall schedules to decide how many need to be shed, but the bases could fall sooner.

Not anymore.

Hired for expected flying for a Mesa fall.....didn't happen (and won't)
Hired for expected EMB-145 program.....didn't happen.
Midwest in trouble and not looking good.
Delta wants rj cuts and will get them.
Pro-rate flying on EMB and CRJ losing money and they are about to shed much of it.

Total tally....about 400-600 pilots overstaffed in coming months. Plan accordingly.

I just read it. There's defnitely some concern, but I don't think I'd go quite so far as to start looking elsewhere just yet. (My resume dust-off would take about 5 min anyway.) I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

There's really no way you can be sure of how many pilots we are overstaffed. As of right this minute, we are critically understaffed in the Brasilia in SLC. (I've never seen a month without most days being a red arrow, and more months than not have been solid red arrows.) We'll see how the Sept schedule plays out--only then can we be sure.
