So then, any Sky-busdrivers around here? Curious to see who went there!
You actually think they're going to own up to it?

Especially the CA's who are making what a CRJ CA makes?

What's the difference between a Skybus CA and an Ensenada hooker?

The hooker makes more (and REALIZES she's a whore).

Only the stupid people will get baited by the fares that they advertise.
I'm sure more than one person will realize they got rooked by the time it's all said and done.

They may stick around for awhile, but I don't think they will do as well as Ryanair. Europe had NO LCC's when Ryanair showed up, the USA has LCC's with better products than Legacies.
BINGO!

They aren't gonna do that great.
Agreed. I give them 18 months.

The fact is, they will soak up a small amount of the market

However, it will continue to grow until they are profitable.

At the fares they're charging and the flight length, I don't think food is going to be a problem. Just have a sandwich before boarding and take a small bottle of water. They're not going to be able to search everyone's carry-ons for water and a candy bar and the minimum FA staffing aren't going to be watching everybody all the time. And even if they catch you, what are they going to do?? It's no violation of FAA regs, and certainly not worth it to take you to court for the cost of a bottle of water.

I just don't see how they're going to be able to pay for the fuel with the prices they're talking about charging.

Flying get less "glamourous?" Where have you been the last 15 years?

They are going to enforce the "no food unless you buy" rule. And it can be done legally. Look at "corking fees" for bringing your own wine to a restaurant, and the many other places you can't bring in your own food or drinks. They can make the rule that you cannot bring your own food on board. Of course people with verifiable disabilities that need special food will be exempt.

If they "catch" you, they will charge you. And here's how they do it. Skybus is using payment with credit card only. If you read the rules of the airline and what you agree to pay for a ticket, there is language that says you must buy food from them. If you are caught sneaking food on, i.e. seen eating it, you will be charged a penalty--essentially, you'll be paying for that sandwich twice. Water may be exempt, by law--you may be able to bring on water, but nothing else; or they will charge your credit card. And you will have signed an authorization authorizing them to do so when you bought the ticket. And remember, the FA's have an incentive to catch you and charge you.

So, enforcing the rule, is relatively easy.

They're not even their ideas. Skybus is a carbon copy of Ireland's Ryanair. This kind of crap may fly in Europe, but consumers in the U.S. aren't exactly hurting for choices when it comes to low-cost carriers. These guys are in for some rough times ahead.

I said this in the other Skybus thread and I say it here gain: Ryanair has some of the highest payscales for narrowbody pilots in europe. Starting Pay for Captains is $120K, 5th year F/Os make $140K and 5th year Captains over $200K. And they are home every night, no communiting, guaranteed.

Clever management like Ryanair's (and Southwest's) apparently values motivated cockpit personell. How clever Skybitch's management team is remains to be seen, looks like they forgot to copy a few important pages...

Cheers,
Sun'n Fun

Interviewer - "And here we have the CEO of the new LCC Skybus. What is your name?"

Skybus CEO - "Mr. Cocktossen"

Interviewer - "I am sorry?"

Skybus CEO - "Harry Truman?"

Interviewer - "Excuse me?"

Skybus CEO - "Bill Diffenderffer, yea that's me. Old Bill Diffenderffer."

Is this an alias or a joke.

Quotes from Skybus' web site.

"Oh, and don’t sneak food onboard unless you brought enough for the whole plane." - ever had a soda jerk try to take candy away from you in a movie theater? Somebody is going to get there ass kicked at FL350.

"We don’t have a phone number." - So if you're lucky and we feel like it we'll email you instructions on what you can do with your expired nonrefundable ticket.

"Please arrive no later than 30 minutes before takeoff, or we’ll leave without you. Really. By that time, there won’t even be anyone to check your bag." - Code for "We aren't going to hire more than two people per station so either show or tough sh!t."

"Has the exceptional range of 3,700 nautical miles/6,850 kilometers, giving us the capability to fly you non-stop across the continent." - The ultimate cattle car.

"Typically seats 156 passengers, with comfortable leather seats throughout the cabin." - They had to put in extra overwing exits to comply with FAA evacuation regulations.

"Has wider aisles than other planes in its class, making it quicker and easier for passengers to get on and off." - That means narrower seats. Can you say packed in tighter than Elton John's stool?

Glad I'm out of the airlines. You all have fun with that. God help me if I am forced to ride on them.

Well, that's officially the funniest thing I've read in a long time.

Yeah they are advertising flying into certain cities that is very misleading. They are saying CMH to SEA which is actually CMH to BEL. That's over 2 hrs outside of Seattle, hello $300 cab fare. I give them six months.

But wait, that is GREAT for people who live in Bellingham who want to go to Columbus! I bet over 30 people in that area are very happy. Add the people across the border in YVR, and that makes 33 people total.

couldn't help it. Just visted the site...explored some of the job requirements. At the bottom of the FA list...says they have to have a laptop. Interesting.

paint job is ugly too

Hillarious!

Bye Bye--General Lee

I've seen some F/A's that didn't have much of a lap top....

Historically, pilots have (in the last 2 decades) whored themselves out just to advance to the majors. In some cases even PAYING for the privilege of going to work for a turboprop feeder...

It won't surprise me when SkyBus is able to get enough pilots to make a go of it...

What WILL surprise me is where they're going to get Flight Attendants for $8 or even $9 bucks per flight hour. If they paid by duty time, it might be different, but methinks they'll get enough people in the door to start, but when passengers won't pay for their snacks, sneak their own food and drink on thus sparking confrontation, and they don't make up for it in sale like the company said, they'll be right back out the door and word will get out.

Should be interesting to watch their staffing problems.

The way the rules are written seem confrontational. These guys come across as more surly than the old TWA FAs. They haven't even started and they're already pissed at their passengers.

It was called deregulation. The biggest tool that CEOs have ever recieved to screw their own employees.

There will always be someone who can do it cheaper. The slow painful death of an entire industry.

Glad I don't work for the airlines anymore.

They aren't whores. Whores get paid for what they do. I think bottom feeder or scum sucker is more appropriate.

Agreed. I think they're digging their own hole with their passenger food/beverage rules.

Most people aren't going to understand why they can't carry their $10 turkey sandwhich and bottle of Snapple on the airplane and will be pissed when asked to put it away or trash it.

Should make for interesting TV. Maybe SkyBus could install video cameras in the airplanes to catch the action and market it for TV. Might be their most effective tool for making money yet... ;)

And they will be "Doubly upset" when a "penalty" charge for food appears on thier credit card for "sneaking" the food on board. That is going to be their enforcement tool --- adding food charges to your credit card that you used for the ticket. In the terms you have to click 'AGREE' to.... it has a provision that they will charge you for food if you bring your own on board.

Yeah I call BS on not being able bring your own food on. number one, no pax will actually read that page on the website, so it will be customer service nitemare for the FA. sorry sir you cant have that sandwich you brought on...didnt you read the rules on the chalkboard? well ok, this time but next time I have to take it away. what a crock! and like the other guy said, what if you have someone that needs to eat for medical reasons? what about babies? are they going to sell breast milk? (yeah i said breast) i cant see this lasting very long in its current form.

LOL!! Couldn't you see some guy pulling his wife's boob out and taking a drink because he's too cheap to buy food. Then he tells the flight attendant he's doing it for medical reasons.

It's kinda funny hearing Jetblue guys complain about Skybus... This sounds like them about 7 years ago... Now Skybus is ruining their careers!

JetBlue paid $65,000 for an Airbus CA and charged for food/bags??

Idiot...

Actually the Airbus Capts when Jb started up got paid around $80,000

Of course upgrade was immediate, profit sharing checks in the $20,000-$30,000 range followed and those same guys are making around $180-$200,000 at JB now with 18-21 days off.

And they got their stock for around a few dollars per share.. After the splits and the $60 run up many took their high 6 figure gains.

I am sure the skybus pilots have been given a raa raa sppech that sounds similiar

Give me a break... Jetblue undercut the industry just as much as Skybus is doing now. Compare their 2000 pay rates vs the industry....

Guys making 180-200k with 18-21 days off? Now tell me Einstein how this is possible. Even time and a half over 70 hours can't come close to that. I know because I used to work there. There were a few making near that, but they were whoring themselves out and working far more than 10-13 days a month (I am using 31 day months to give you a break). Limited at 100 hours a month and working in the sim can't come close to that figure...
