What are the companies mins for upgrade. If you've been at Colgan for 2 years you'd have to have at least 2000-2500 hours. Right??

where did you hear we were hiring street captains? THat's a bunch of BS if it's true

I bet you guys wish you had seniority protections.

That's nothing new. If there are already upgradable F/O's though, then that is different.
Dingo222, where did you get your avatar? That's frickin hilarious!

P2J where did you get that info? I kind of doubt that its true because you are correct when you say that there are plenty of FO's with the time. It would be a swift kick in the balls to all the FO's if Colgan starts giving away left seats to the street.....

I think that the problem is the lack of F/Os, and the requirement to have enough on hand to begin operating the new WV service with the additional SAABs coming on-line. It was unrealistic on Colgan's part to think that they were going to recruit and train enough F/Os between 01 Jan and 01 May. The circumstances are similar to what happened when Colgan stood up the Continental Connection operation in IAH. Couple this with the requirement to begin a training program for the Q-400, Colgan once again finds itself in a manpower crunch. However, history has shown that management has no qualms about doing what is expedient vs. what is ethical and fair.

I think I found it on yahoo pics, don't remember. It's fitting for this place!

I'm not touching that one, she makes my schedule!

I think the sim is our bottleneck right now. We can't run upgrades and newhires at the same time. I hope they uncrate that other sim soon. THere are probably 40+ saab FO's with the required time to upgrade right now. I'm 60 numbers back from the guys going to upgrade this month, and I'm only 200 hrs below the upgrade mins. They just helped slow attrition and raise morale by giving a nice 2nd yr pay raise. That ad has been on that site for quite some time. I asked Mike and TB that exact question 2 weeks ago and they said it would be a last resort and I believe them. THey know there are good FO's out there ready to upgrade. I wouldn't put any weight on it.

Colgan is hiring street captains.... Great news for all the 2 year FOs!

I am sorry Prop2Jet, I see now that you're right.

It's sad that they do that. I still remember TB saying that street CA is the last thing they want to do.

Oh well, I guess they changed their mind...

Hey I am not lying. Go on to climbto350.com and c for yourself

Colgan Air - Hiring B-1900 & Saab 340 Captains & First Officers
* Hiring Saab 340 First Officers "ON THE SPOT"

The point is I guess we dont have enough Captains.... that sucks. O well Just better not jump the line.

Looked at climb to 350.com. It says F.O.'s only and no mention of CA. Further more proof this website is full of B.S. I'm possibly out for good.

I think the ad was just worded incorrectly which isnt too hard to see. I remember how bad the manuals were written. I believe it is SF340 & BE1900 FOs and BE1900 street captains. I think there arent enough Beech FOs with upgrade time but even that is hard to believe. Captains arent the problem. They have had more than enough captains for quite some time since growth slowed. There is no reason for them to hire Saab captains. Last I remembered there was a few that left that want to come back and would as captains but they need to hire FOs and train them. One bad thing is that they are so fat on captains that they can probably hold off on upgrades to run a few new hire classes through and just work the captains a bit harder like they did when CO and UA deals were signed in 05. Q400 will be all out of house training. Probably in Seattle FS. I dont think people need to start twisting just yet. They will hire street captains but only when they absolutely need them. The new Saabs arent pouring in like they did with CEX so there is no great push for crews. They have enough captains sitting on bottom of lists at some bases to cover. So relax.... go bang your hot girlfriend or someone else's hot girlfriend. Never stress what you hear and only some of what you see.

You can have all the protections in the world, but if the company is short staffed, you are still going to get junior manned or have street captains hired. period

I don't know of any Union pilot contracts in the US that allow the offering of vacancies in anything but seniority order. I'd be pretty pissed if the company I worked for hired off the street instead of awarding promotions to those within first.

I think the add is addressing future needs when they pull 40 captains off the line and get to the end of the qualified fo's list. keep in mind many new hires only have 600 hours and it will be a long time before they upgrade.

its not the website, or the forum, its the idiots who open their mouths before they think. They are the same ones you should not listen to in the flight deck or crew room! Seriously, I do not beleive anyting in here until its verified by another source. I will list these things......9E getting 900's for delta, NWA parking X number of planes when all their flights are full with a profit being made, an airline hiring street captains is a good thing, and whatever Your Pilot friend posts......and Occams Razor......enough said

Coolside, there are about 15 Beech FOs who meet the upgrade mins, some have over 1500 hours in the airplane. Do you still work for Colgan?
