George Will had an interesting article in today's Op-ed section. I'd post a link, but they all require online registration it seems. The last para reads:
The basic message is, Iraq WILL get more bloody and expensive than any Politician or partisan wants to admit. Unfortunately, we're stuck now. We either see this out, or we encourage terrorists. But if we stay in, we can forget fairy tales about throngs of grateful Iraqis happily becoming peaceful, democratic capitalists. Even if the majority ARE peaceful, the minority are sufficiently motivated and numerous enough to cause major problems for years. So, are the American People, and the Politicians ready to face the truth?
I try to be an independant and non-partisan. I almost never respond to any of the Political Posts. I read both George Will and Molly Ivins, because I'm not interested in reading ONLY what I *want* to hear, and ignoring the other side of an arguement. I support our actions in Afghanistan, and opposed a war with Iraq.
Question for anyone:
Does anybody know of a successful SINGLE party Democracy????
(And, wouldn't it really be called something else?)

George Will often fails to see an idea through to the end. In this case, that a wartime president has to first be able to make such estimations in order to communicate them. So far, no one has been able to even make a rough estimate of what is arguably an unparalleled war against an unparalleled evil. How in the world could any accurate estimate be given?
On the other hand, it is easy to estimate the effect of a failure to deal with this problem.

Why does every political point that is brought up turn into christian-bashing from the likes of satan/350 driver?
You automatically change the topic from a political one to Christian-bashing.
You don't at all seem like you are trying to convince me that God does not exist. You are trying to convince yourselves.
Everyone at their core knows their is a God. Otherwise, you would not react with such vitriol to other people's faith.
Point is, I am now thoroughly convinced that you, at your core, believe that God exists. This enrages you, so you take it out on those who represent Him here.

I don't hate Isalm or Allah, because I know that they are false.
I do not fell threatened by their judgements against me.
If a Muslim calls me a sinner and says that I am doomed to go to hell, it does not bither me in the SLIGHTEST.

Apologies for lumping you with satan, but I seem to recall you bashingthe christian point of view at least once. I'll search the threads and see if I can find it.

Second of all, I would prefer that you call me evil or misinformed, but a bonehead I am not.
Judging from use of vocabulary alone, I am far from impressed with your attempt at discourse.
If you are going to bash me, please attempt to do so with invective that reaches somewhat above the 'angry-bar-argument' level.
Try refdesk.com and use the thesaurus to look up alternatives to 'bonehead' and 'garbage'. Might I suggest 'dimwit' and 'refuse' as intermediate level substitutes? I'm sure there are even more entertaining choices. Shop around a little.

I love the Dem, Republican fights that go on here!
The fact is that the terrorist boneheads don't give a crap what any of you think. They have been fighting for 2000 years and will continue to do so, why? Who the F*&k knows.
The simple fact is we are the latest to be blamed for whatever is pissing them off this month, and just like any trouble maker or bully from back in grade school they will go after anyone who appears weak or scared. Like it or not, Clinton led them to believe that was the United States. He wasn't the first or the worst, but he did.
A few history tidbits, not complete but enought to provoke thought.
1. We appeared weak to Japan in 1939 and our actions of 40 and 41 allowed them to think that we would be an easy target. (Yanamamo (sp?)knew better but did what he was ordered to do, Attack Pearl Harbor)
2. Great Britian appeared weak to Hitler. Why, because Chamberlin bent over for him on several occasions to aviod being "Pushy"
3. Korea, same type of deal. The north and China figured we would not risk a conflict. Not sure if it was worth it but, it did have the effect of making the USSR nervous about trying something.
4. Vietnam, a mess for sure, but not because of our resolve, just our methods. Again it had the effect of spooking the Russians for another decade or so.
Now #3 and #4 are interesting because there was no immediate threat to United States Children and Civilians, nevertheless we were there.
Current day, all that useless political crap aside, Mr. Muslim extreamist killed more United States Citizens on 9-11 than Japan on Dec 7th, 41, the Nazi's, Korea, and Vietnam prior to our entry into the conflicts.
Why is this important? Because Mr. Muslim Extreamist would love nothing more than to kill you and your children TODAY! Why hasn't he made a more concerted effort to repeat 9-11? Because he is scared snotless that we will return the favor 100 times over. Will this completly deter him? No. But it will make him think twice about it.
If we go passive again, more Americans WILL die. And it wont be on some far away battlefield, it will be in your homes, businesses, and Churches. Remember, they get a first class ticket to go see Allah if they can manage to kill your child! It gets their rocks off.
Stick your passive heads in the sand if you like.....it makes you an easier target. It is not a pleasant world that we live in, Our job is to make sure that our corner stays respectable.
Should we have invaded Iraq?? Hard to say. Just like it was hard to say about Nazi Germany or Japan. I do know that Uncle Saddam would have gladly gutted your american infidel butt if he could have gotten away with it. At least prior to open hostilities Hitler and Tojo would have offered you Beer and Tea and discussed the situation.
Just remember when you are bickering about political crap, and using 9-11 and such to make your case, you have a big fat target plastered on your head that all the terrorist bozos are sighting on. The next pus%y in office (Whoever, or whatever party) will allow them to strike.
