Wonder how this will affect negotiations.......

Senators Kennedy and McCaskill Appeal to Trans States CEO
Healing Labor Wounds by Expressing Concerns with Abuse of Union Employees
St. Louis, Mo.—Sens. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) and Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) have sent a letter to Trans States Airlines CEO Hulas Kanodia expressing concern over the terminations and continued harassment of pilots who also volunteer to serve as union officials. The letter was sent on behalf of members of the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA) whom TSA management personnel have unjustly fired or disciplined.
“I would like to thank the senators for taking the time to support TSA pilots,” said Capt. John Prater, president of ALPA. “Now it is up to Mr. Kanodia to take the necessary steps to undo the damage done to pilots at his airline.”
The letter comes after a tumultuous 2 years during which TSA wrongfully terminated six pilots, including five union officials, from their positions. There have been three settlements and three arbitration awards that ordered the reinstatement of the wrongfully fired pilots. However, TSA has failed to reinstate two of the three pilots as ordered by the neutral arbitrators, and has failed to pay the back pay owed to them.
“The pilots who have stepped forward to serve in union positions and work for the betterment of their fellow employees deserve fair and equal treatment by TSA, and our labor laws require it,” the letter read. Kennedy chairs the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, and McCaskill is the junior senator from Missouri.
In the letter, the senators strongly urged TSA’s Kanodia to “quickly return the fired employees to work, and make every effort to restore TSA’s relationship with the union to one of cooperation and respect.”
ALPA and TSA have been in contract negotiations since February 2006 and have made little progress toward achieving a mutually agreeable contract.

Here is the link to the letter.

The best part was when Rick Leach COO of TSA, denied the letters existance. Unfortunately for Rick the letter had already been emailed to all TSA pilots.

DUMBA$$!

I don't consider myself a Democrat but this kind of support says a lot. A big contrast to the anti-labor Republicans.

No offense, but as (I presume) a union member, you might want to reconsider who you vote for and which side your bread is buttered on.

With respect,

Taws.

Unfortunately, this too will be deposited in the circular file....

Unless the government takes drastic measures, ie. revoking the business licence, nothing will change. Sad but true, but some things will never change.

Taws,

Some people vote for other reasons than their union standing.

Do you think labor would've taken the beating it has, in this industry, if the Republicans hadn't been in charge for the last 6.5 years?

As a member of a union, I think people should take a step back from being appalled at Clinton's behaviour and start asking "what has Bush done for the country/middle America?"

If the Republicans win next time, look for Hulas et al to run rampant again!

If the Democrats win, look for any increased pay to be off set by higher taxes and less freedom....

We need a change (for a few years atleast) - don't fall for scare tactics! If they get this industry in their crosshairs, your increased QOL will hopefully offset any tax hike.
If they reform the RLA, it'll be worth any downside.

By the way, I don't see any Republicans sending out letters to POS airline execs like Hulas .............. Do you guys??

Democrats=Less freedom?? Was anyone enslaved or chained to a stump during the mid/late 90's?

While I understand disgust with some policies of the demoratic party, please think before you call a 300 word letter to a relatively unknown regional airline a PR stunt. It's a breath of fresh air to even see a sentence come from Washington in the name of labor support these days. Let alone for us pilots.

Why is it that the party running on the platform of "less government" is the same group of people telling women what they should do with their bodies, putting the commandments in court houses, haulting LIFE SAVING genetic research and deciding whether you're a patriot or not FOR YOU based upon a measure of support for the worst & only choice/direction to go in fighting terror?

Meanwhile, thanks to this administration, your party is held hostage by the most wacked out radical religious right. I.E. Jesus Camp. You really think morals are stopping bush from signing a stem cell bill??? Say what you want about the liberals, but their policies haven't killed anyone--compared to the 3300+ dead in this Iraq war that was supposedly over 3 years ago, that has accomplished NOTHING.

The politics of fear is finally getting figured out...it's bogus.

Whaaaat?

Send a letter to their donors?

Pshaw!

There ARE much more important issues than supporting Labor! There's the Global War On Terror! We need to support the party that TWICE tried to insert language to allow foreign airlines to fly our warriors to/from combat.

We need a party that's so focused they can react swiftly and decisively in a crisis. No...not a crisis like the loss of pensions for patriotic Americans when their industry is hit by extraordinary events...but a crisis like getting Terri Schaivo's feeding tube reinserted right now!

Yeah...my priorities are obviously out-of-whack.

I have to laugh when I hear union members tout the Republican party as being a good choice - ONLY in the airline industry would you hear this.

By the way, these are usually the same people who bitch about their union, yet are the first to call their reps when the sh!t hits the fan and they screw up!!
To err is human, we all do it, just remember who stands on YOUR side when it happens!

so what makes you think domocrats will reform RLA? Couldn't Clinton have done that his first 2 years rather than say working on other pressing issues like gays in the military?

Was the airline industry in this condition when Clinton was in office?

What did UAL/DAL/NWA guys earn when Bill was in office?

What do they earn now?

What do you aspire to earn in this industry?

I know what I would like to earn.

I know that Clinton wasn't responsible for these wage gains, but it didn't hurt to have a democrat running the show when they went into negotiations.

Get over the "gays in the military" nonsense. Clinton lied to us ..... so what!
Do you think you're being lied to now? Of course we are, and the next guy will do the same. Point is, who is going to improve this industry/YOUR quality of life????

Bush?

They're not. They're telling them not to murder the human being that's developing in their wombs.

haulting LIFE SAVING genetic research

Research that requires the death of a human embryo.

Say what you want about the liberals, but their policies haven't killed anyone

Need I remind you which party was in power when we went into Vietnam? I think that utter disaster makes the Iraq war pale in comparison.

Bottom line? Both parties are screwed up. The Democrats want abortion on demand, higher taxes, more social programs, and no guns for law-abiding citizens. The Republicans are screwing over everyone except the super-wealthy, they're pandering on the immigration issue, and they've created a complete and utter quagmire out of the Iraq war. I have no faith in either party. You simply choose the guy that's the least reprehensible.

Both political parties suck. And these letters won't do anything to change Hulie's behavior.

Agreed, but if you want to vote for what's best for airline pilots, A LABOR GROUP, you vote democrat. Read "Flying the Line Vol. 2" and you can see the history of how the republicans, in particular George H. W. Bush and
Ronald Regan, have screwed over the pilot industry again and again. So basically if you want to try to make more money and have a better quality of life then you vote for democrats. If you want to vote for making your CEO and upper management rich at your expense then you vote republican. For some people their career is not a big enough voting issue for them and they choose to vote on other issues. Fair enough.

Guys you are labor. The Republican party is anti labor period. If you want to support them because of religious reasons, well you may want to reconcider. My guess is that Jesus would be a liberal. If you want to support them because of right to life issues then fine no other issue probably really matters to you.

Jesus...a liberal?

Dang right! In fact, He was Labor! A carpenter, Nazareth Local 1221 (UBC)

Everyone remembers His Sermon on the Mount...but only a few old-school conservatives remember His Directives in the Valley:

1. Acquire more things. Then have them blessed. That way they become "Blessed Things".
2. Crush the meek.
3. You will know my favorite disciples by the metal they drive. The holiest spreaders of my Word will rate a G-V!
4. Treat others the way you think they ought to be treated.
5. Hate.
6. That "Turn the other cheek" bit? I was joking! Yea, verily I say unto you...smite those that even act like they might wanna smite thee.
7. Sling-shots are your right! They can have my sling-shot when they pry it from my cold, dead hands!
8. Peacemakers are wussies, and should be stoned, verily.
9. Never trust foreigners! I only love Americans! Just kidding, Moroni! Wait...Moroni! Come back! I was kidding!

I for one am glad that the most promising technology in medical science is being represed so that artificially inseminated fertility clinic embryos can have a more dignified death of being flushed down the toilet or injected into a barron womb.

Pro lifers really got this one right!

Hey, don't blame me! I'm consistent on this issue. I want artificial insemination outlawed also. Anything that requires the artificial creation, and later destruction, of a human embryo is bad mojo in my book.

Besides, there is great debate in the medical community about just how "promising" this technology might be anyway. These outlandish claims about cures for alzeimers and Parkinson's disease are pretty much ruled out by a large portion of the medical community.

I love the fact that regional airline pilots are also experts in embryonic stem-cell research. Spout your talking points elsewhere.
