I hate to say it but there is no Feb 30th. Never has been, never will be.

Never's always a long time....
;)
"Julius Caesar reformed the calendar because it was out of synchronisation with the actual seasons, this in the early part of 46BC. This year ended up by being 445 days long to bring the calendar back in line the the sky's and seasons.
Not surprisingly it was called the "year of confusion."

He created a calendar that more nearly matched the annual journey of the earth round the sun. There were twelve months with alternating lengths of 31 and 30 days.
The exception was February which had 29 days and Leap years gave February 30 days to keep the calendar correct. Much of his knowledge came from the Egyptians.
The senate had the month of Quintilius renamed July after Caesar as an honour to his reform.

When Augustus became emperor the senate voted that the month after, then called Sextilus, should be name in his honour and thus it became Augustus.
However the senate did not like the fact that Augustus's month had 30 days and Julius's has 31 so they changed Augustus to 31 days, taking the extra day from February. This threw into disarray the organised way the months changed from 30 and 31 days.

Not satisfied, they tinkered more altering the number of days in the months according to what they thought was important and because they did not want three consecutive months with 31 days.

Consequently February lost a day (except in leap years) and we were left with the apparently random way the months alternate."
===================================
Since the advent of the Julian calendar Feb 30th has happened one time in one place- Sweden, 1712.

"Time is eternal, but methods of tracking it are not — and so a Johns Hopkins University astronomer wants to replace the Gregorian calendar, with its leap years and floating dates and 15th-century effluvia, with a sleek and standardized system for the world.

According to Richard Conn Henry‘s calendar, eight months would each have 30 days. Every third month would have 31 days. Every so often, to account for the leftover time, a whole extra week would be added."

Ok, Sorry. There is a 30th, and a 31st, and an easter bunnie.

Thanks Don,

I knew if was lyes about no Easter Bunny.

If I could ask for one more favor. Would you please assure me that OJ was innocent . There are some that say otherwise,

Feb 6 announcement according to super secret black helicopter sources.

Very hush hush, agent orange.

Only Tug Speedman knows the exact location at this point.

02/06/12 Mark it down!

(Disclaimer: this is based on pure rumor and speculation.)

But it WILL be announced Feb 6. It's guaranteed. Maybe...

Yep, it will be DEN on Feb 6th!!!!

OR, the 8th,10th,11th,14th,19th,23rd,24th,or the 39th..

Didn't we do this in January?

And if they vote no? My informal survey says it's unlikely to pass the swa side. Haven't spoken to a mechanic yet that's voting yes.

I wouldn't compare the two groups. Who knows? Would a no vote have anything to do with a DEN base announcement?

In Mecca for training and had several chief pilots on the shuttle to the hotel....said there might be an announcement soon....they had thought it would be yesterday but some second guessing was going on.....Sounds like SWAPA recommended DEN or LAX.

SWAPA recommended Denver...not LAX.

From Steve's executive blog:

Much is a-buzz about the new domicile and its location. I believe the announcement will be made soon and we can evaluate the dynamics of the new base and the effects it will have on line construction, commuters and manning. DEN and LAX have been in the top three for some time. However, we'll have to see which direction the Company chooses. After evaluating current and projected schedules along with where our pilots live and may want to move, SWAPA has made a recommendation for Denver versus LAX as our data shows non-commuter bases to be more productive. With the push from upper management on productivity, we are hopeful that Denver will be the choice. Any time a new domicile is announced it inevitably brings with it some trepidation for the subsequent fall out in the other bases. Looking ahead and with past displacement issues being of a concern to not only our displaced pilots, but also SWAPA, I trust the Company to adequately staff our newest domiciles in a way that mitigates unneeded displacement and movement around the system. Stay tuned.

Is it strange that swapa would have a recommendation??
The Denver and LAX bases fulfill two different needs for the airline... I just found that odd-

You are thinking Eagle, which 75's do go into on a regular basis. I was Aspen qual'ed at a previous airline. The issue is the box canyon that any kind of missed approach to the landing runway can be a hairy situation to say the least, especially SE....The best plane for the job in ASE is the Q400. Too bad we didn't buy anyone who had those....
The best plane was the AVRO/BAE146... too bad they have all been sent back to Europe. As for what's left, the best plane is one of the modern Learjets, followed by a Gulfstream. I suppose if you are talking airliner then yea a Q 400 is the most practical still in service. the CR7's are a joke that Skywest uses. Nothing like a 50% load factor max (we did the same nonsense into HHH with the Saab, what a joke)

Cause what SWAPA says is so important to SWA when they decide to make base plans...

Ding Ding Ding we have a winner. The SWAPA statement was a waste of resources. They don't care what SWAPA thinks and they don't care what Flight Ops thinks. None of decision makers at SWA are or ever have been line pilots. The descision makers are GO people and Ground Ops. They will make a descision, Col. Magill will execute that decision, and the rest of us will live with that decision.
