Republic
1. IND - small and may close or at best stay small once the 3 MDA bases are taken over:bawling:
2. DCA - where most are based now
3. PIT - opening in March
4. PHL - opening late winter early spring as MDA is shut down, MDA's last flight will be at the end of May:( All MDA flying from Feb till the end will be based in PHL

Once all 3(4?) are open it looks like PIT will be the most senior then PHL then DCA. They are also taking the U/MDA MX hangar in PIT.

Shuttle America

IND
CMH
FLL
Don't know much about that side but suspect CMH is junior.

AWAC

1. PHL
2. ORF
3. DCA

Guess ORF is junior due to the 2 or more leg commute for the AWAC guys. Guess PHL and DCA are about the same.

Shuttle's Bases do not include FLL.

Currently, they are:

CMH
IND
ORD

As of the January coversheets, IND is the most junior FO base, but only by a month, followed by ORD and then CMH.

There are rumors (which have been ongoing for some time) about a SLC base, but there have also been rumors about BOS, DFW, PHX, IAD, JFK, DTW, and a variety of others, so I don't know how much stock to put into them.

Also, keep in mind that both Shuttle and Republic are held by Republic Holdings, and which one you end up at is largely dependant on which one is hiring that week. I don't believe they have separate hiring pools, and you may get hired at Republic with the hopes of going to DCA and get stuck in IND for Shuttle. Currently, inter-certificate transfers are not permitted, though we are hoping this will be added within the next year.

Most of the new-hire FOs for Republic will likely be J4J pilots, unless those pilots decide not to take the spots they are entitled to. We are currently behind on FO hiring of J4J pilots since the FOs upgrade every time our piece of the operation expands, so it may be hard to get a position off of the street. There are a few Saab pilots left to transition to the EMB170 as well, and they may be split between the two certificates.

For Awac jr base is ORF by far. PHL and DCA are about the same for fo anyway. DCA is much smaller than PHL is and I don't think it is going to grow much.

So with MidAtlantic giving those 25 170's to Republic - will they be hiring directly into them or is that bid on by other shuttle and CHQ guys? Anyone know how many people are in the pool with Republic/CHQ/SHuttle - I hear it is pretty deep? It would seem as though they would need nearly 250 new hires once the 170 deal is complete....right? Have the 170's come on property yet or will that be in March as well? Thanks!

Half of the flying on the Republic aircraft must first be offered to pilots from MDA in accordance with the J4J protocol.

First Officers are not permitted to bid between equipment or certificates (due to training costs) except when upgrading, so all of the non-J4J FO slots on the EMB170 will be new hire pilots. There were roughly 300 pilots staffing the aircraft at MDA, so 75 of the 300 pilots (half the FOs) at Republic will be off the street. The other 75 spots (being taken by 145 pilots upgrading to the 170) aren't being readily backfilled into the 145, so I don't see a net gain of 150 spots system-wide in the RJET system.

The Shuttle America operation is still growing, with another 20 Captain and FO spots announced recently. I can see us putting together another 80-100 spots with current flying, half of which would be captains and the rest new-hires, but that's just a rough guess.

OK, Shuttle does both 170s for UAL and DAL. If that's the case, then why is their a base in IND and CMH? I don't recall a UAL presence in IND or a DAL presence in CMH.

I always thought that a codeshare's bases would be located where the mainline is based as well...

Saves company money. So they say.

CHQ's take on it is that they base the crews where we have the most overnights. I'm CMH based. We have approx 6 E170's that overnight and about 10 E145's. I'm surprised RDU isn't a base. I heard that we have 40 rooms a night the the Holiday Inn.

Gotcha, thanks.

3 airplanes in RDU each night.

IND and CMH are bases because we have maintenance hangers at both airports.

CMH, similar to TPA and FLL are "focus cities" for DAL. Delta (including DL Conn.) has the most departures of any airline at CMH. More Heavy Mx is also expanding in Columbus as the holding company just inked a deal for a much larger hanger here. My guess is that being a focus city, heavy mx, number of departures, and the savings of hotels are why CHQ/S5 has such a large presence here.

However I don't know where you got your numbers from, the intranet site doesn't show that many. Maybe 8 system wide......I could always be wrong though.

One might think that....but b/c IND is the center of the known universe....like duh...don't you know that??... ...we will always have a base there....and we will always deadhead crews from there to other bases to start trips.

Because that saves the company money....

Don't worry, you're not alone - I thought AWAC was the only company that did that
