Loves and likes dont pay bills. Its a noble sentiment, though.

Lets hope your friend has ample wealth or no wife and kids to support. Those first few yrs of regional pay are absolutely disgraceful and hardly livable for many without some severe sarcrfices and cutbacks in lifestyle.
single, a lot of money in the bank.

Four ways to start out in this industry:

1. Hard work and drive (washing airplanes, etc., and a lot of Top Ramen)
2. Military (More and more are not making the switch to civilian flying - go figure)
3. Prior career makes it possible at an older age.
4. Rich mommy and daddy.

True: flying is normally IS easy. But, every now and then, the fertilizer hits the air circulator. Do you want Sully or Renslow at the controls?

Its always much easier that way, isnt it? ;) Leaves a lot of room to "love" flying an airplane (or any other surrogate activity), unlike someone who has serious bills and would like to take a girl out once in a blue and just maybe raise a family.

Make sure you introduce him to FI so he waste away in a hotel room or crash pad while hes not doing what he loves.

can't do that, he will waste too much time here and not study

He's almost right. This IS an easy job for modestly intelligent/capable people to do. It's not all that demanding and it's not a hard job to be really good at.

This thinking is why pilot pay will continue to be shi#t!!! This is not an easy job...you have multiple times year where you put your job at risk. You sacrifice time at home with family...and get paid crap for it!! You fly a damn jet and are responsible for every person on that airplane. You are responsible for a multi million dollar piece of equipment. And no not everyone can do it that is moderately intelligent...my airline isually washes out about 10% in training...and these are guys with previous experience!!
