While this may work in a prop a/c, it is generally discouraged in jet aircraft, due to potential for compressor stalls etc.
While there are many ways of getting down, most companies have SOP's that require to be stabilized at some point. Jet aircraft in particular, may have long spool up times. If thrust still at idle at low altitude, things could get really interesting.
