Actually kids my line about mountain flying was to point out that I don't feel the company supports us properly; my bros and sisters flying at s5 unfortunately have had to learn it mostly on their own. And for the record we do have guys doing Mexico in night IMC (or did, not sure if shuttle still has Mazatlan or not).

For you holier-than-thou types: which ERJ operator came within 300 feet of a hilltop in Mexico City and then wrote up the GPWS for erroneous warnings?

Mountain flying is not that hard (I speak from experience). I don't think I need a company to "teach me" how to mountain fly. Just follow the dp, and be aware of your surroundings. period.

First of all, I don't use that pickup line... Pure facts there. Comparing the destinations XJT goes to over RAH destinations it's easy to see who's more experienced, but that wasn't the point of my comment. I was trying to debunk a statement someone else made about how great RAH's mountain flying is, complete with photocopies.

Only one way to settle this. Who hits a mountain first??? Oh... wait... A major already did that in Latin America.....


We can, in fact, all be professionals and do our jobs. SA is the key when it comes to operating in and around mountains. Easy enough. Just have a decent idea of what altitude constitutes "safe reading altitude" and everyone will be fine.

For the record, flying in and out of Denver is mountain flying about like kissing your kid sister is getting some. Try VOR approaches into La Paz at night in WX if you wanna get a taste for mountains crawling up your butt. Flying freight was nothing if not interesting. Even still, we managed not to hit anything... not that hard, just requires a bit of preparation.

Nonetheless, you kids be safe out west. And I mean that in the sincerest way possible.
