In a recent situation where I had to replace my Aithre Shield EX 2.0 which is wired into the Garmin GEA24 I knew I could be faced with seemingly complex wiring that I haven't done before. Of course the option is go to an avionics shop or learn how to do it which is something I enjoy as I have a passion for learning (and screwing things up). But as with my RV (motorhome) the motto was learn to do it yourself or go broke in the process.
I've been fascinated in the art of avionics wiring and what you need to know, the tools required, and of course how much I don't know. Fortunately in my Aithre I decided to just splice into the current wiring as CubCrafters did and leave the avionics end to the experts at CubCrafters and all worked out. However, I have really enjoyed watching Garmin's video tutorials on avionics wiring for those that are building their own planes and doing their own avionics. Fascinating to learn these intricacies. Here is a playlist of just some of what's out there. In the process of my wiring studies I learned (and bought) better tools for the task, how most of us crimp incorrectly such as the wrong side of a spade connector (bottom vs. top) and more.
