I have recently been offered a position with RAH/CHQ. Understand there will probably be three classes offered in Feb. Any advice from any current RAH/CHQ pilots of which airframe to pick if given a choice?

Thanks

Where do you live?

do you get to choose which company? Shuttle, Republic or CHQ?

No - they offer you a class, tell you which cert., then you decide. If you say no/holdout for something else, I don't think it's looked upon kindly, but things change daily around here, so what do I know.

CRJ(rp) will probably give you the best airframe seniority. just something to keep in mind, but that is only IAH CRP and SDF based. could be a tough commute. the other easily commutable bases from RDU like ORD(s5) or DCA(rw) are going very senior so very little luck holding them

Are they running classes for both companies or is it one or the other, alternating each month, or is there no rhyme or reason to it, just luck of the draw?

When did this CRJ stuff come into the mix? Who is going to fly those? CHQ, S5, or RPA? 200, 700, or 900?

CHQ has a GSO Base. You can't beat driving to work.

All that matters is seniority. Take the first offer and go from there.

Unless you're looking for a certain base. And you don't want to commute. QOL is important too, IMHO. If all the certificates had all the same bases, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm off to an interview Next week.

I live close in the DFW area. So I suppose that all would suggest that I go for IAH or CRP in the CR2? I like the emb 170/175's though and that would most like be a crappy commute...

Besides IAH/CRP is there any other bases you think I should look at?

Any thoughts?

I got an interview with Republic on Jan. 10th... What are the chances of me getting offered a base in Texas in a CRJ200? When you get offered a job at a regional they don't say what airplane or domicile you will get do they?

From what I heard they tell you on the spot if you are hired and what aircraft. They send you an email before training letting you know which airline and I beleive they tell you which base after training (this is all from a friend who is just going through indoc right now)

My Shuttle class didn't find out what base we had until we were almost done with sim.

Sounds to me like you don't get to bid for Equipment or Base... They tell you, or did I miss something?

I thought when you got "the Call" they offered you a class date & equipment choice. Maybe I was mistaken about this?

How's upgrades going?

Well, you go to class for whatever certificate you'll be on (CHQ, Republic, or Shuttle) so you know what airplane type you'll be getting. Then once you get put in the computer system and can log on to the website, you put in a standing bid for what base you want, and then later on the bid awards are posted. In our case, it took freakin' forever to get put into the computer system, so we couldn't submit a bid until we were halfway through systems. Then the results weren't posted until we were almost done with sim. I think our case is a little unusual, but it can happen.

If you walk in and tell them. I want to fly the CRJ2,you're going to be in class for it. (If your interview goes well) Linda told a interview group last month, If you don't want to fly the CRJ, reapply in 12 months.

Just like that! Good Luck

Was asked if I could be hired immediately and was offered the ERJ-145 for the next day's class!!! I couldn't do it, thank you Jesus. Was offered the next CRJ class, thank you Jesus. I'm choosing CRP when I'm done...Margaritas at the local Mexican restaurants are the best...and the water is slightly less than doo doo brown down there, almost blue in a way? Or is that an oil slick?

Are you thanking the lord because you dont like the ERJ???? I think you may be a little dissapointed if your expecting the CRJ to be like a limo

I think he was happy to get CRP. But boy will he be pissed when it gets closed in less than a year. After all that is the CHQ way.

No, thanking Geeeeeezus for the bases I would have gotten. No offense to the ERJ, just lucked out on the fact I could stay in TX

I also understand CHQs tendency to run after a year. At least I'll have an enjoyable first year. It ain't all piss and vinegar.

The next days class??? Are you kidding me??? Were they going to call your current employer for you and explain why you didn't come back to work? The HR people got upset with me because they called me on a Tue, wanted an interview on Thurs, to start class the following Mon if hired and I politely declined. I may have been shopping for jobs, but I wasn't going to do that crap all for a pay cut.

Yeah, seriously. I was in a good place to move if I needed to but now after emptying out the apartrment and putting everything in storage ahead of time I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger when I ws given the green light. Honestly, being a part-time instructor I'm not taking a paycut. Thing always work out.

During a drug test last week I talked to our assistant chief who does interviews at least once a month. He said, pretty much word for word, what you guys said. We are trying to fill classes and most people turn them down because RAH isn't offering enough advance notice prior to start date.

When I applied last year it was about 14 days from initial resume faxed to sitting in class. Pretty fast but I was furloughed and didn't really have much else to do.....
