The patch tore up my arms, i still have damage and that was over a year ago. i just went cold turkey, and if i got the urge at night substituted nictotine with rum

As previously posted, COLD TURKEY is the best way to go.I smoked for 42 years & managed to quit CT. It wasen't easy, as I had an unexpected death of a close relatlve 2 weeks after I quit. It's been almost 20 years now & I've never regretted it. Now, if I could only control my appetite----------

I used the nicorete looseneges(sp) The gum tastes awful- The lossenges arent bad- only used them for a couple of days- I think it is more in your head than anything-Thought I would miss smoking like crazy- dont miss it a bit-smoked for over 25 years. I really dont miss trying to find a place to smoke at the airport-or going into a smoke filled smoking area where even a hardened smoker walks in and gags. Also If I had been smart and quit 20 years ago and saved that money instead of making Philip Morris richer. I could have paid cash for my kids education rather than borrowing it- Oh Well
Best of luck

Nothing like a reformed alcoholic or smoker LOL

I quit smoking and took up piercings........

After smoking for 24 years and numerous failures in my attempt to quit, I finally succeeded by pure determination. First, you must WANT to quit and second, you must convince yourself you can do it. I was down to around 15 cigs a day and started with step two of the patch. After two weeks on step two, I went down to step three. One evening, three weeks later, I realized I had forgotten to put on a patch that morning. That was it; no more cigs, no more patch. If you choose to use the patch you might want to consider taking it off at night. I experienced VERY vivid dreams and didn't sleep well at all when I wore it to bed.

If you enjoy adult beverages, I would suggest that you stop that as well. At least for a few months. I know more than one person who went through months of frustration to stop only to start again after a few drinks with the buds.

Good luck, YOU CAN DO IT!

No I don't use a spit cup in the cockpit, I don't have a big line in my mouth. I can dip in total stealth and no one would ever know.

With as much Copenhagen as I normally dip many seem quite sure that I am headed back down to Houston for the Livestock show and rodeo or something a long those lines. A can of Cop a day keeps the doc away.

One thing is for certain, you have to want to quit with every fiber in your body, you can not do it for anybody but yourself.

I have been quit for 6 Days, 11 hours, 58 minutes and 10 seconds (6 days). I have saved $50.03 by not smoking 259 cigarettes. I have saved 21 hours and 35 minutes of my life. My Quit Date: 10/13/2005 9:19 AM

^ I love that program, thanks to the poster for linking that. Great motivator.

The first 72 hours were not as bad as you might think, I used a lot of candy, snacks what ever was around. Exercise, ahh the air! Just think, you know your bud that is always ragging on you because you will NOT bike the 10 mile trail with him, now you can beat him. REHAB those lungs chief!

If ya cant lay off nicotine, at least try to convert over to the smokeless kind. Overall its less (in)evasive, and you can still be active and work on your fitness.

I have already saved enough to buy a new video game OR;take the girl to dinner, pay my cell phone bill, pay my internet bill, buy 1 hour in a C150, fill up my car with premium gas and buy a 12 pack, pay someone to clean my gutters....

Good luck guys, watch out for the triggers. These are evil moments in the months to come that make you want to use nicotine. In my case (buying the "gum" to purely abuse) it was trying to grocery shop with two sick and screaming kids. Bars and social settings are notorious. Any significant stress. You'll need to come up with a mental or physical mechanism to cope with the sudden brutal cravings that in reality last only a few minutes.

Almost 24 hours now. I have done this once before, only lasted about a year though.

48 hours, now. I wish there was a good way not to be not so grouchy when I get a craving.

smoked for 10+ years.
quit cold turkey last year, I still want to smoke when in a bar or drinking, but have only slipped a couple times when drinking.

my wife quit at the same time, which has helped in the long run, but at the time it was brutal for both of us!

Smoking and other Tobacco products

Good Luck to you and anyone trying to quit. I went "Cold Turkey" 15 yrs ago on cigarettes. I quit All tobacco product finally about 8 years ago. I still get tempted evey now and again, but will power keeps me "Clean". Good luck, it will be one of the best things you can do for yourself.
