To any CAL 767 pilot:

Delta (my airline) has never been known for fleet simplicity, contrary to their "fleet simplification" announcements that never seem to come to fruition. I could give several examples, but won't.

CAL, on the other hand, actually seems to mean it, now that you only have three basic fleet types.

Here is my question. At DAL, we have a small 777 category with the new-age cockpit displays. We also have a 21-aircraft fleet of 767-400s with the large display screens with tape displays. Since our regular 757s, 767s, and 767-ERs all have the more traditional cockpit displays, we have the -400s as their own category as well.

I understand that CAL combines the 767-400s with the 757/767 category. Is this true? If so, have you "dumbed down" the -400 cockpit displays, or do you just accept the differences?

Thanks for any reply.

We accept the differences for the most part. Unlike the 737 fleet at CAL where the NG's have been dumbed down a bit with the CRT screens displaying round dials for a/s and VSI; the 767-400's keep the tape and large Nav screens. Having just finished my type on the fleet, I can say that it isn't that hard to jump from one to one as far as a scan goes. The major differences occur on the ground flows and one after takeoff flow where the systems and switches are different. Major differences are the Pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Once airborn, you don't deal with these too much and once you accept the display differences on the forward panels, you are basically at home with everything else.

The 767-400 cockpit at CAL is just like at Delta. At CaL you train on both 757-200 and 767-400 sims and have differences throughout the whole training process. Once online you are exposed to the 757-300 and 767-200 which are very similar to the 757-200 cockpit except for a few differences. They told us in training that the way the FAA lets us operate the 767-400s as a common fleet with the others is that they routinely take FOQA data and use it to prove that we are operating the airplanes just as safe while going back and forth. I hardly ever fly the 767-400 and it takes awhile to get back into the differences but it comes back I guess. Check out the differences.

the ADI display on the 757-200/300/767-200 is the same as the ADI in the 767-400... ie speed tapes with flap setting markers on the left and stall warning indications along with alt tape on the right side. The picture that you posted does not have that. There is a little difference in the display of the tapes from the 400, but for the most part all the same info is there. Now I'm only speaking of how it is at CAL, dont know about the rest

munson, you're right. Upon closer inspection that is a different photo than a CAL 757 but the part about the 757-200/300 and 767-200 having altitude tape on the right hand side is incorrect. Here is one I found with CALs type of display.
