While a lot of people assume that Bandeirante means bandit, probably because of the similarity with the word "bandido", it actually means "flag bearer".

A lot of people assume that proper pronunciation and comprehension of foreign terms is important to me. It actually isn't. ;)

On a similar note, some trivia:

The EMB-110 was the Baderante.
The EMB-120 was the Brasilia.
The EMB-135/145 was the ???

Any guesses?

My favorite is still the Taco Rocket!

i have a few friends flying the EMB135/145 right now and they affectionately call it the "whisteling **CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED****CENSORED**-can of death"

Bandeirante is pronounced: bon-dir-on-chee, accent on the third syllable. SSDD is right, it doesn't mean bandit. In Brasil the bandeirantes were sort of the pioneers, although they weren't there to settle and farm, they were looking for slaves and gold. There is also a Toyota truck similar to the Land Cruiser built down there called the Bandeiranate
