Since you mentioned the Bandeirante, anyone know how it's *really* pronounced?

"ban-dit." Period.

While a lot of people assume that Bandeirante means bandit, probably because of the similarity with the word "bandido", it actually means "flag bearer".

Bandeirante is pronounced: bon-dir-on-chee, accent on the third syllable. SSDD is right, it doesn't mean bandit. In Brasil the bandeirantes were sort of the pioneers, although they weren't there to settle and farm, they were looking for slaves and gold. There is also a Toyota truck similar to the Land Cruiser built down there called the Bandeiranate
