Proline 21 and Charts Part 135

Is there anyone out there who is running paperless and flying 135?

We are getting a CL300 with the dual IFIS installation and I need some direction besides the legalese of the AC.

Your certificate holder just needs the Ops Spec (i forgot the number) with your A/C listed (Type and S/N) listed should be pretty straight forward. We are currently doing this in a Cl300. POI should be able to provide the needed guidance.

Our AOC is paperless. You will require two OpSpecs: A025 for Electronic Record Keeping ERK and A061 for using the installed aircraft equipment as a class 3 EFB (recommend that you also get iPad 1,2,3,4,mini approved as Class 1 EFB and add Jeppesen FD and a electronic weight and balance vendor like APG or iFly). A061 is first granted on a 6 month trial basis, you must still have paper charts and conduct Electronic Magnetic Interference (EMI) testing. I've heard of some operators getting a waiver and receiving final approval in 3-4 months, depends on your POI.

You can get away with A061 alone for charts only...A025 MIGHT be required depending what you/the operator desire. Read and know the AC. You should also read FAA Order 8900.1, Vol. 4, Ch 15, Sec 1 it was just revised last month and some good stuff was added (not to mention thats your POI guidance on all that's required for approval).

Also, make sure that you have 2 file server units (FSU's) with that ProLine 21 installation.

A025 is not required for 135, it's for 121.

3-3052 REGULATORY REQUIREMENTS. Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14 CFR) parts 121 and 135 require that operators maintain certain records on crewmembers and aircraft dispatchers. Part 121,
? 121.683(c) requires that computer-based recordkeeping systems be approved by the FAA. Part 135, ? 135.63 neither specifies the method by which part 135 operator records are kept nor requires approval of computer-based record systems for part 135 operators.

FWIW, our POI requires two iPad EFBs even in the Proline 21 (or whatever package is on the CL604). No doubt the Proline is legal to use but I have not had the time to research this. Buying two iPads was the path of least resistance.

Also, our policy is it carry paper Highs and Lows. This was written before the Jepp FD app was released. Does the anyone have an opinion on this?

A025 is not required for this situation, just A061. If you have 2 file server units with the pro line installation, you will not need iPads or other means of redundancy...2 is the minimum in this case and your POI can't require anything else....ask him/her to pay for the iPads if he/she does. As far as enroute charts go, whatever "service" you choose has to include what you'd need on a paper chart. The enroute info on the pro line might be a hair weak and cumbersome but JeppFD, Foreflight, etc are all perfect...or just use low and high paper charts and use the class 3 (pro line) for terminal charts.

When you subscribe to the chart service in a proline21 setup, you have 4 uses of the password, one of which can give you access to the JeppFD ipad app...with better enroute charts
