Does any know anything about the 944 here? Good years bad years? Any websites to get info on them? Going $$ or anything else.

Thanks

I have an 87 944. Best car for the money in my opinion. Very fun to drive. I don't think there were really any good years or bad years. The cars really just depend on how they've been treated. With good care they can last almost forever. Parts for the 944 are a little more expensive but it's not a real complex car and much of the stuff can be done with a little mechanical ability. Turbos are pretty cool but just more stuff and more expensive stuff to break. Go to www.Pelicanparts.com. There are guys there that know everything about 944's and are very willing to help. Good luck!.

I have a 1989 928GT and would suggest looking at '87 to '89 S4's. They can be had for 15k in nice condition. Mine has been very reliable although somewhat expensive to maintain. Try www.rennlist.com. 944s are very nice. Get a turbo S if you can afford one.

I owned a 1983 the 1st year they were made. I bought it in 1996 for about 5 large and it was in great shape. I got the timing belt replaced. VERY VERY fun car to drive. They tend to run a little hot in the summer but have an aux fan that is controlled by a thermostat that kicks in right before it gets in the red. I tried to figure out a way to get the fan to kick on a little earlier but to no avail. If I were you I would get a least a 1985 (1/2). THe 1985 and a half was the 1st year model of the new panel and either had 10 or 20 more HP than the 83 and 84. He1l if you got the cash I would spring for a late model Turbo or the S2 model. I had a naturally aspirated one and it was quick the Turbo models will scream. They get good gas mileage but you have to use premium gas in them. When I start getting my military pay check and I pay off my Z71 Im going to buy another 944 the day I make my last truck payment, I dont give a d@mn what my wife says. The car handles real well on curvy roads. Try and get a Mustang or Camaro to keep up with you on a curvy road and watch in the rear view mirror as he runs off the road.

I have 2 yrs worth of payments left on my truck and Im looking at spending around 6 or 7 grand and getting a nice turbo model. If you really got some cash to blow I would get a 968, these are all convertable and will cost you about 20 large. I know where a naturally aspirated 85 1/2 model is in ATL in showroom condition, the guy want 5K for it

Great car! Best year is 1988 because it was only year they made the 944 Turbo S (someone correct me if I'm wrong). Buy one for cheap and fix it up a bit, join the Porsche Club of America (http://www.pca.org) and take that thing out on the track. Porsches are great street cars that are an instant success on the track as well. They can be a bit of maintenance hogs as I understand though. Parts are readily available and many upgrades are available. Best of luck!

Since when did the Porsche Club allow Audi's?

Just kidding with ya'll. The late model 944's are quite possibly the best all around front engine GT car ever built. If you like to drive, without all of the modern annoyances like traction control,...the 944 is your car. Unless you can afford the new Carrera GT2.

BTW, Porsche takes the AWD turbo 911, takes off all of the bells and whistles, calls it a GT.............and adds 30% to the price. Only Porsche can get by with that.

I'm still saving up for that 2002 GT3RS... only another lifetime to go!

I had a Honda S 2000 for a few months before I found out that the birth control pills didnt work and my wife was pregnant. I loved the Honda, but for the money the 944 Turbo is a much better car. It doesnt have all the bells and whistles but thats one of the things I liked about it. Those are some links to some grat web pages above. I had a student when I was a CFI that had a new 2002 Turbo, he took me for a ride in it. I had instant wood. What a great car, I hope I will be able to afford one sometime.

I was wrong about the 968 coming only in a convertable model. I looked at those pages above and found out that they indeed made a hard top model. I have never seen one before though, so Im guessing that they are pretty rare. I would love to have one though.
