Cathal, I'm sure Mel shares your opinion regarding Pinnacle pilots. Mel is above you and me in that he has the class to only talk bad about Pinnacle pilots behind their backs. I'll call a spade a spade and I'll do it right here. Even if the very classy Mel is going to call me an a-hole. While insulting NWA flight attendants and calling people names, Mel exemplifies true class. I'll maybe even nominate him for message board police /censor.

Mel, does you referring to some Pinnacle pilots as "dipsticks" pass your rigid sensorship guidelines? I'm glad you get to decide where to draw the line in what is classy here on this forum. Get over yourself you hypocrit.

Can't believe someone could be above bashing Pinnacle pilots? Too bad for you.

I have friends at Pinnacle. I also know that if times were different, I could just as likely be there. Is it tough to seem them get plane after plane while our fleet shrinks? You bet. Have I ever seen/heard a Pinnacle guy/gal do something dumb and laugh? You bet. But I'm not dumb enough to think we are better than them as a whole. We have more experience because we have been here longer on average. If that makes us better, than I guess we are.

Oh... I'm sure the NWA flight attendents are flattered that you and Cathal have taken up their cause. Burn me at the stake, by god. How dare I have an avatar that makes fun of senior NWA flight attendents. What the hell is wrong with me????

Mel, perhaps you're not hearing these things because no one shares their opinion with you, or you're completely deaf.
We all make mistakes. I've never said that I'm perfect, nor have I said that the Mesaba pilot group is perfect. I have said, am saying, and will continue to say that XJ pilots have a low opinion of the 9E pilots, as a whole, because of the evidence they present to us. There is more than a general feeling of that around here at XJ, and you telling me or anyone else to not sink so low, or that we're classless, or that the aviation world doesn't need pilots who have a low opinion of a weak pilot group (with exceptions) will not change the facts.
The fact is that Mesaba pilots have a low opinion of Pinnacle pilots, and if I was considering the 2 airlines for employment, I would want to know that. Which is why I said it to the original poster.
Anyone who truly wants to know why, and wants hard facts as to why I think this way is free to discuss it with me here, or PM me, or ask me about it directly when I deride them in the cockpit or crew room.
God Bless you, Detox.

Right here? on an anonymous internet message board?

I do like your screen name though. Clever.

Believe me....low regard stretches across both side of the table. Especially for cocky MSP f*cks like yourself Cathal. Raise your hand when your over yourself so I can pick you out of the crowd. Maybe I'll buy you a beer.

I'll be over myself as soon as more than half of you know what you're doing in an airplane.
And just so you know, "your" is the possesive form of "you." "Your" shows ownership, as in "Your pilot group can't operate airplanes very well."
I think you meant "...you're over yourself." "You're" is the contraction of "you are." As in "You're part of pilot group that is unable to operate airplanes well."
We're clear now, aren't we?

I don't know if there's any truth to this, but I heard that a 9E capt. demanded to be de-iced in DTW last year because his wx package forcasted icing at 4000ft. That got a few laughs in my crewlounge.

You, as in the word "you" forgot to use when "you" said, "more than half of know what you're doing in an airplane."

You, as in, you make me sick because you are an arrogant prick that makes our whole pilot group look bad.

Is it the Pinnacle pilots' fault that you are still an f/o? Hardly. Yet you are sure taking in out on them.

Maybe you should go outside and jog a mile or two to get rid of the anger you have before your dumb@ss mouth gets us all in trouble.

Oh geez... I think that's the oldest 9E story floatin' around... True or not, though, it's funny...

Cool your jets... and props

Alright all, let's all cool our egos. Jealous, "old timer FO's" at Mesaba + lots of brand new Pinnacle guys upgrading into new jets = this girly spat. Yeah, we're jealous. Yes, there have been some "interesting" 9E happenings. Let's all cool down and see what Friday may hold. I heard all three MEC's were involved.

I'll agree with my fellow 9E pilot above. Many 9E guys don't like Mesaba pilots either. Lets face the facts, Pinnacle pilots (in general) will never like Mesaba pilots, and vice versa. That's just life. The phrase "can't we all get along" has a simple answer, NO!! We do not live in a perfect Brady Bunch world.

I have seen Mesaba do some pretty dumb sh!t in my tenure at 9E. I have seen us do some dumb sh1T as well. In the bush, I also witnessed some dumb, dumb sh1t. Stupid actions are not limited to Pinnacle AND Mesaba.

Fly safe,

Where does this presumption of jealousy come from? I am only stating what I know to be true. I am telling the original poster what I think is the better company to be at despite the lack of movement here. Mesaba is a better place to work than Pinnacle because we have fewer (not no) idiot pilots and, referring to Lear70's post, Mesaba treats you better.
Please do not presume I'm jealous. And thank you for calling me names. That really proves your point. I'm glad you had to resort to that.

I'm sure you guys have seen a lot of stupid stuff from 9E pilots, but we see just as much stupid stuff from all of you XJ pilots. It goes both ways. If you think that the XJ pilot group stands as a shining example of perfect airmanship, then I suggest you lay off the bong. To an outside observer you look no better than us.

P.S. Honesty, why does it take you guys so d@mn long to do an after-start check on a freakin' Saab? You guys push back and sit there blocking traffic for 10 minutes in the alley. Speed it up a little.

I could say a lot of rude things right now after those comments and tell a LOT of stories of some pretty "dumb*ss" things I've seen some MSA pilots do (especially in MSP for some reason - I bounce to a different base every other month). But the truth is, each pilot group has their fair share of people who don't exercise simple common sense on the line; that doesn't mean you have to sling mud at them.

p.s. Mel, I dig the avatar; a lot of us think it's funny as h*ll, don't change it! :)

Very nice

Nice thread guys... The personal rancor reflected in these remarks I don't intend to dignify with comment. But I would like to address everyone's general attitude of hopeless negativism. (Name the Movie) I'm sure the original poster is really impressed.

PCL_128, the Saab has a few more buttons and levers than Off, Start and Run.

Afterstart Checklist:
1. Shoulder Harness - ON
2. Chocks and area - Clear
3. Condition Levers - Max (One at a time if done correctly)
4. Ice Protection - Set
5. FMS - OFF (Yeah, lots of our Saabs do have it. And CB collars.)

After start is complete. If it blocks the alley, so be it. And the ramp is now really good at letting you all go by. The frequency is 127.82.

MM

PS. If I wanted to join the game, I'd say stop putting your lunch boxes in our crew fridges or I'll tell Mom! :)

Oh and Cathal, I'm probably an older "Old Timer FO" than you. So no "name calling" ('Whatever' - Ed) was intended.

It takes such a long time to run the check list because we are paid by the minute. I hope you guys get that in your next contract and you will start to see each and every minute as a bonus.

Cathal,

Cool. Glad we got that cleared up. Seeya.

Yeah...

After Page 2 of this thread, I looked outside, saw the snow and cold, realized that a lot of us have been looking a lot of cold and snow lately.

Must be getting to everyone. Everyone should go somewhere warm for a day or 2, and get some golfing in. The cabin fever in front of the computer is driving us all nutz.

Frankie says, "RELAX!"

What's really funny is that a lot of us 9E guys rag XJ for the ramp operation. (except me of course I have wayyyy to many friends at XJ to care, pissing and moaning about it won't make anything more efficient) I will agree that our uniform standards have a lot to be desired. I wear my uniform(and hat)every day on duty and the G'danm time I wear a tie from my flight school, the uniform police slap me on the wrist. DTW XJ guys are really cool, but I do notice that a lot of MSP XJ guys don't look us in the eye that much. But then again a lot of the MSP 9E guys don't either. But then again I'm an ugly SOB.

Hey wait a minute...I hijacked the thread. Go to XJ. Enjoy your QOL. I'm hoping to God,Allah,Buddah, whoever that this is my last year at 9E. But then again if I keep refusing Junior assignments it just may be ;)

I called you a cocky f*ck. Get it straight.

Its hard to believe your Gods gift to aviation with such a short coming in the "attention to detail" department.

This is what happens here

It turns into a p*ssing contest between the pilot groups after about two or three pages when you ask a simple question. It's fun to read and then they start bashing you for grammatical errors if you post a reply regardless of what the subject is when they run out of stuff to harass you on. It is pure entertainment. Good stuff.

I'm sure I'll get some really intelligent comments about this post. I can't wait.

Being a Mesaba dude, I have no problem with Pinnacle pilots. "Good for them!", I say. So soon how we forget at Mesaba when we ran ExpressI out of MSP and DTW then had them flying B model Saabs in the MEM heat for a few years.

Honestly, it boils down to petty jealousy. Pinnacle is getting a bunch of fancy jet-o-matics and we are mostly in Saab-o-matics. How do you think the ExpressI guys felt when these Barbie Jets began showing up in MEM and flying all over?

There are a lot of new guys at Pinnalce and you can point out a lot of them come from Gulfstream with little experience. But how airline savvy were you when you first were hired at Mesaba? I crashpad with a group of Pinnacle guys. Most of them are decent.

Anyhow, I picture Spanjers, Tearney (sp?), and Anderson all sitting around a table dressed in their best Dr. Evil attire, looking at all of this and laughing...MUHAHA...AAAHHHHAHA...MUHA...MUHA...HAAAAAHAHAHAHA!
