Labor Morale Not At A Zenith

Star Tribune Business Briefs

Pinnacle Airlines has been keeping a low profile this year as Northwest's other regional partner, Mesaba Airlines, battled with its labor unions in court and the news media -- until last week. A lane of traffic was shut down Tuesday outside Pinnacle's Memphis headquarters as about 235 Pinnacle pilots and their supporters marched in formation. A giant inflatable rat adorned the protest site, which union leaders said symbolized management greed.

Pinnacle management -- aware the event would be held -- erected a banner that welcomed Pinnacle pilots. The company also arranged for cookies and hot chocolate to be served to the pilots at the protest. But the union members did not embrace the neighborly gestures on the part of their employer.

Pinnacle management wants to reach an agreement with its 1,230 pilots, so it can strengthen its chances of securing flying for Northwest. The big carrier has created a competition among Pinnacle, Mesaba and other regional carriers, who have submitted bids to fly 50-and 76-seat jets. Northwest remains mum about when it will allocate the planes.

I heard that some newbie accepted them too...

Hardly crew meals!

9E mngt will step up the game as soon as XJ pilots start working under the new rules and the deal is signed into contract language.

No one accepted anything from the "hostesses".

As the MEC Chiar stated "We don't want cocoa and cookies" We want a fair contract.

Just a fair contact those Pinnacle pilots want... nothing lavish... just fair...

Mostly FedEx pilots. Those guys are cheaper than regional pilots. :)

ah. I'm sorry I was unable to make the event. Convenient that scheduling wouldn't let me swap a trip out that day, huh?:angryfire

Sounds liks an ASA Christmas bonus.

Hey, eating cookies while doing an informational picketing isn't like crossing a strike line. In fact it just proves that your company is so cheap we have to take the handouts in order to survive. :)

The fact that no pilot took any "hospitality" from the company during the event shows the Pinnacle Pilots have integrity and resolve.

The Pinnacle Pilots intend to create a levergae contract for the next group in Section 6. This isn't about Pinnacle but the profession.

XJ is working under the new concessionary contract. I believe the only things that haven't begun are the medical and PBS concessions which start Jan 1. Everything else started Dec 1. Oh and of course, still waiting for the even more growth with concessions than what we were going to get with the great growth contract of 2004 :smash:

Wow, cookies are my favorite food. I once took a job for that reason (Skyway).

I hope Comair doesn't do this, I don't know if I could resist. My resolve could sustain with Biscoffs but if they offer warm chocolate chip cookies I'll give the $10 an hour (among other things) they're asking for.

Mmmmmm, cookies.
