I'll go a step further and say that informational picketing makes us look like a bunch of whiners. I remember feeling that way when i would see pilots picketing before i was in the industry.

I'm merely suggesting that we need to think about the audience before we do things like picketing. When they see us complaining about 18k a year salary their natural response is.....do something else you idiot.

Until there is a strike and people can't get from point A to B, nobody will give a crap unfortunately.

zakly, ezakly. It looks to me like a war dance or a shot across the bow. But in and of itself not really useful.

Seems to me if pilots don't show up to picket the message to management: our pilots won't show up to strike....

Said another way: You can't win games if you don't show up to practice.

Informational picketing is really not for the public, It's just done in front of the public. We would picket in front of Phil's house and any prospective investor or shareholder, but we probably would not get the permit. It works. What does not work is "APATHY".
Some people on the broad sound a lot like my 16 year old son.

I don't understand informational picketing. The public doesn't care at all about us. They want cheap fares and safe travel that is on time. They care about as much about us as we care about the person working at Mcdonalds.

I disagree. People do care. And, more importantly, the companies care. Think Continental is happy about the pickets? Do you think they are talking to you're company about their displeasure. You bet they are.

Continental will def. care. Looks bad for them. But the people? not sure about that one. Pilots barely understand scope and whip saw, I am not sure the public will get it. their minds are on their business meetings and their vacations.

Just Continental seeing will put pressure on Pinnolgan management to get their house more in order. So good

The problem is that you're not understanding who the audience really is. The public is the least of ALPA's concerns. They aren't on our side, have never been on our side, and never will be on our side. Picketing is a way to demonstrate to management that the MEC isn't just some small group of pissed off pilots that don't represent the rank-and-file pilots. When over 200 of us picketed right in front of that scum-sucking POS Phildo's office with a giant rat in MEM, there was no longer any doubt that the average Pinnacle pilot was mad as hell. It also helps to get the investors worried. When investors see newspaper and nightly news stories about Pinnacle pilots picketing, they get worried and start asking Phildo the tough questions. If they get really worried, they start putting pressure on him to settle. This isn't about the flying public, this is much deeper than that.

that makes sense. i was looking at it solely from perspective of informing the public with picketing.

Continental pilots will be there to support you.

As an ExpressJet laborer, wish I could be there too.... I wouldnt bet against CAL, Colgan, and the Q growing more and more over the years- all three hubs, doing more and more express and mainline flying. Colgan grows and grows regardless of what the Pinnacle guys have to deal with...

I felt like it was appropriate to post just to get Phildo's clown picture in this thread.

The Q is the right plane for so many markets right now. It makes a lot of sense especially for CAL considering their scope clause. I hope some other regional carriers get into the nex gen turbo prop game before this cancer becomes terminal.
