Recent word from the hiring department of the regional I work for has told me that airlines are now coming across many pilots with criminal backgrounds. Including assault, theft, DUI, and other various criminal behaivors. Is anyone on here guilty of an serious infractions been hired by a regional despite? I was.

I've played Grand Theft Auto a few times so I have a pretty long rap sheet I'm sure.

Do you really think people are going to tell you anything they did?

This is old news.

About three years ago, FAA/TSA mandated a loss of "unrestricted access to secured areas" for a long list of felony convictions that were not previously disqualifying. They required more thorough background checks to check for this. Lo and behold a bunch of pilots with prior convictions washed up. At my company, we actually had a couple of past child molesters. They were given the opportunity to resign.

Criminal CEOs

How about criminal CEOs? Have you thought of that first? Yes, maybe a few pilots made wrong moves during their college days; some others just didn't get caught. But when there are CEOs such as JO who's well known for fraud, lying to labor groups and lots of other illegal crap that he gets away with that is worse than anyone that made a poor judgment in college and happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Don't the applications ask whether you were convicted for the following crimes within the last 10 years.

If say you've had a couple of misdemeanors when you were young and it's been more than 10 years since, shouldnt you be able to get hired.

To the original poster, when is all of this being discovered. During the hiring background check, or after IOE and what is your department doing about it. Were the crimes more than 10 years prior and who the hell woulddisclose that they had a record, if its sealed.

The security check asks for ANY conviction of about 50 different misdemeanors and felonies that they feel could jeopardize security. It's required before you can be granted airport privilleges (SIDA badge).

Dude, conviction for first offense DUI isn't a "criminal behaviors".

Second of all, it's not "criminal behaviors"...in order for the airline to declare their pilots as having criminal "behaviors", they'd have to witness it themselves.

Actually they want to know everything. I had a speeding ticket 11 yrs ago. It does not come up when I put my name in the district circuit court on the internet. However it does come up when an airline does a background check on me. Sad how we have to explain ourselves during the interview process. We were all young once. If you did not get into some kind of trouble in high school or college you may want to check to see if you have a peenus. (I spelled that wrong on purpose) Sucks how the minor dumb things we have done have to follow us forever, When other people just don't get caught.

I never made it to a regional due to the serious infractions on my record. But I managed to get hired at two majors with the same serious infractions still on my record.

You are a D0uchebag!!!!!!!!!!

i beleive its been convicted of a felony is the question they asked.........so, i have been accused of, but never convicted of a number of things, and for the record, have a couple misdomenors....whatever the spelling.......one from college (roommates radio was on loud, i answered the door, and got a serious ticket which was like over a hundred bucks). oh, and i have also heard from an ALPA attorney, that legally you do not have to report to the company your DUI, not that i have one, but it came up in conversation one day. sure you have to report it on your medical, but its not a trend so there is not an issue, unless you get a second one....then you have made a trend of bad decisions and are in trouble......

any HR people know about misdomenors? like ones from college......barfights.....party tickets.....what else is out there.....that could make a company not want to hire you?

What's wrong with DUI's? Our President has three of them even though only one made it public.

I heard the CP at ASA has three.

A person female, (Julie E.) at ASA has 3 DWI's And she did not hire me because she said I lied about my speeding ticket. Over the phone I was asked when this ticket was, I thought it was about five years ago. Then when they sent me the app. I put down the exact date. (about a year off after looking it up on the internet) I was accused of lying and hiding one speeding ticket. I got this straight from the horses mouth because I called, asked what happened and spoke directly to her.
