Pilot Halts Takeoff Of NWA Plane In Fla.

(AP) Orlando, Fla. A Northwest Airlines pilot halted takeoff from Orlando International Airport after one of the plane's engines shut down Monday, authorities said.

Detroit, Mich.-bound Flight 529 never made it into the air after a pilot saw smoke coming from one of the engines around 3:45 p.m., airport spokesman Rod Johnson said.

"The pilots aborted takeoff due to an engine that shut down," Northwest spokesman Roman Blahoski said.

Two of the plane's tires blew out as the pilots' slowed it down on the runway, Blahoski said.

No injuries were reported among the 146 passengers on board the Airbus 320.

All the passengers were bused back to the terminal, where they were being rebooked on other flights, authorities said. The plane was towed off the runway.

It never said that the pilots of the departing aircraft saw the smoke. Maybe a pilot from another plane holding short or taxing saw it and radioed it in. Also, when does the media ever get these stories straight anyway? This article says they aborted after the engine shut down. I don't think you need to see smoke if an engine looses power and you're not past V1 to know that an abort is the only course of action.

Unfortunately, the FDX MD-10 right behind them flipped-over and burned. Our guy says, "Thank God we're studs, and they're not!"

here is the deal, someone, in a car driving in their car near the airport saw the smoke, they knew someone who knew a pilot. The called them, they confirmed that smoke was bad coming from an engine(that person once knew an airbus rep from the factory). So anyways, that pilot, once shared a crash pad with a NWA pilot, so they called him, that pilot contacted the company and they sent a message that they should abort the takeoff. so, thats how it happened.......in case you are not figuring it out, i am kidding........
